Hazards

Very cold air will arrive tonight. Windy conditions and single digit low temperatures early Wednesday morning may produce bitter wind chill values of 5 to 15 degrees below zero.

…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST THIS MORNING…
…WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM EST WEDNESDAY…

* WHAT…For the Winter Weather Advisory, freezing rain. Additional ice accumulations of a light glaze. For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 10 below zero.

* WHERE…Northern Jackson and Macon Counties.

* WHEN…For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 7 AM EST this morning. For the Wind Chill Advisory, from 6 PM this evening to 11 AM EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Although the Winter Weather Advisory will likely be allowed to expire at 7 am EST this morning, A Special Weather Statement will likely be issued for ongoing hazardous road conditions in areas recently affected by ice and snow, and due to the arrival of very cold temperatures. Slippery road conditions may persist into Wednesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Winter Weather Advisory for freezing rain means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
