Here is the news and weather briefing for Macon County.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Dry and seasonably cool high pressure will control our weather through today. Low pressure tracking south of the region will bring a chance of light snow to the mountains Wednesday night. A more impactful low pressure system will bring a wintry mix to parts of our region Friday night and Saturday morning, turning to rain in the Piedmont and mountain valleys by midday Saturday. A strong storm system is forecast to affect the eastern part of our nation through the middle of next week.

—LOCAL NEWS UPDATE–

Last night, the Franklin Town Town Council voted 6-0 to establish a social district in downtown Franklin where drinking alcohol will be allowed. The next steps will involve firming up the map, creating a logo, designing cups and signage, and sending the information to Raleigh. The district will become active in a few months from now.
