An overview of America’s imminent overpopulation dilemma

By Frosty Wooldridge

As it stands right now, this month of October, the world’s population expects to ring the bell at 7 billion of our species.  The 7th billion human will land on Earth around October 31st.   ABCs Diane Sawyer spoke about it on a newscast this week, but didn’t give it much fanfare other than the unlucky child would be born in India.  Millions already live in abject misery in Asia, but their numbers will continue to increase.

Suffice to say that India suffers a runaway population overload of 1.2 billion in 2011 while it adds another 11 million annually net gain on its way to becoming the most overpopulated country in the world at 1.6 billion by 2050.  Their rivers run with sewage, their air reeks with pollution and their quality of life cannot be comprehended by most Americans.

According to the World Health Organization, 18 million humans die of starvation annually. Among that number, 10 million children die of starvation and starvation related diseases.

“We must alert and organize the world’s people to pressure world leaders to take specific steps to solve the two root causes of our environmental crises – exploding population growth and wasteful consumption of irreplaceable resources. Over-consumption and overpopulation underlie every environmental problem we face today.”   Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Oceanographer

But here in the United States, we feel that we stand immune from the population matters facing the rest of the world.  We don’t think it will happen to us.  But the fact is: overpopulation already takes center stage in the United States.  We import 70 percent of all our energy.  We continue in what William Catton calls, “Overshoot.”  It’s not sustainable.  We cannot keep this civilization functioning without oil and oil depletes by 84 million barrels daily.

Yet, the United States steams toward adding another 100 million humans within 24 years, virtually all of it by relentless immigration from a line out of the third world that never ends: 80 million humans added annually.

“Unlimited population growth cannot be sustained; you cannot sustain growth in the rates of consumption of resources. No species can overrun the carrying capacity of a finite land mass. This Law cannot be repealed and is not negotiable.” Dr. Albert Bartlett, www.albartlett.org , University of Colorado, USA.

For a greater understanding of what we face, Dr. Jack Alpert, www.skil.org has figured a way to get humanity out of its mess by implementing Rapid Population Decline, or a policy by which every woman on earth births one baby only or less.

Here’s what Dr. Jack Alpert has to say:

I am involved in this Circle because I want a different future for my children. The one I expect is harsh and ugly.

            1) I expect a billion people to die of starvation by 2020. (The rich will eat the food or put it in their gas tanks and the poor will not eat at all.)

            2) With the decline in availability of fossil fuels, scarcity will be become so great

I expect an additional 2-3 billion more people will die of starvation and social conflict by 2030 –not just in the poorest countries but also among the poorest in developing and developed countries. (With these additional deaths we may already be at peak population)

            3) With high unemployment, I see anarchy increasing and spreading out of the inner cities into the suburbs.

I don’t see this anarchy controlled by civil law.

            4) I see governments becoming nationalistic leading to resource wars.

            5) The diversion of resources to these internal and external conflicts leads to

more scarcity and more conflict.  (creating a civilization death spiral.)

            6) I see the collapse of global civilization not far different from the collapse of Rome. We will lose:

                        economies of scale

                         productivity that resulted from specialization

capacity to support existing technology and

                        capacity to advance new technology.

            7) the slide down will be brutish

            8) If our kids survive they will live like peasant farmers.

Driving my views is a belief we are overpopulated.

            1) I do not share the brief that we will be overpopulated if we don’t get growth under control.

            2) I believe we have more than 100 TIMES TOO MANY PEOPLE if we want  all the world’s children to live like ours. (that is without scarcity and social conflict.)

In my view, to prevent civilization collapse, with survivor lifestyles pushed back to peasant farmers, we have to get the world’s population down below 100 million people, we have to do it before we burn through all of the fossil fuels and before we collapse civilization.

In my view the circle should be focused on implementing rapid population decline. Any lesser success leads to a scarcity conflict civilization death spiral.

It is the responsibility of this group to replace  their own fantasy with reality. Then  replace the fantasy with reality of an operational global majority.

If we have 100 times too many people to be peaceful and sustainable, our beliefs that a change in leadership, government, economic policies, equity distributions, or environmental policy, without a reduction in population, are pure fantasy.

All of these changes don’t add up to a 99% reduction in population.

The reality is — the only trend that can address “100 times too many people” is rapid population decline. The only way to do this, without using genocide, is to implement a program that allows very few births.

To promote the common good, civilization has taken control over slavery, suffrage, and traffic.

Implementing rapid population decline will require civilization to (temporally 70 yrs.) take control of procreative decisions.

If you are in the business of replacing fantasy with reality, I am with you.

Here is a video introduction to my ways of replacing fantasy.
