A Sad State of Affairs

I cannot understand why many Muslims were so upset with Pope Benedict XVI when he made the statement characterizing Muhammad. The violent actions of extremist Muslims burning down Christian churches, killing of a nun, protests, and threats because they were offended by the Pope’s statements just appear to verify and validate what the Pope had said. Look how people characterize God, Jesus Christ, and Christianity, yet Christians don’t burn, kill, protest, and threaten. Something is not right with the way things are going in this country and the world.

One Nation under Surveillance

A person I know made the following statement: “One nation under surveillance.” I asked him what was that all about. He said that the satirical statement is a play on words contained within the Pledge of Allegiance. He further said that, “It makes reference to how a culture of suspicion, paranoia, and omnipresent police is robbing our nation of the basic freedoms upon which it was formed. There are those in our nation who believe it is necessary to destroy our freedoms in order to protect them. The more we cave in to this line of reasoning, the less we can be distinguished from our feared enemies.”

One Nation under God

Personally, I prefer “One nation under God” as stated in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. On the other hand, a culture of total rights and total freedom develops an environment that has developed such as in San Francisco, where they look down upon those being judgmental and, instead, everything and anything goes. Everyone is able to think, say, and do whatever he or she pleases, thereby developing a totally permissive society. In other words, if it feels good, do it! So, what do we have in Frisco? We have a high rate of homelessness, cops being killed on the streets, prostitution, diseases, crime, abortions, babies thrown into trash bins or flushed down toilets after being purposefully aborted and killed, and rape. You name it. It all goes on in San Francisco. Furthermore, this modus operandi is creeping through every city and town in the United States.

Total Freedom. Totally free sex allows people to do anything and everything they feel like doing, thereby, resulting in unwanted pregnancy, which increases abortions (i.e., killing of innocent human lives). Total freedom in sexual liaisons, whether it is with human, same sex, animals, or young children, creates all kinds of societal problems such as homosexuality/homophobia, same-sex marriages, pedophilia, adults marrying children, sex slaves, making sexual orientation at the same level as racial orientation, and child sexual abuse. We now have teachers having sex with underage students/children; cheerleaders doing crazy, sexual, and wild things; Britney Spears serving as a poor role model for our kids by flashing her you-know-what to the paparazzo; and it goes on-and-on-and-on.

A Sad State of Affairs. Totally free speech by politicians has eliminated civility in the Halls of Congress. Politics is now a pure blood sport. Total freedom of athletes to act the way they do on the basketball and other courts and the gridiron has set a very poor example for our children in youth athletics who mimic those antics on their own courts and fields. Hence, we have athletes killed in drive-by shootings, throwing games to win side bets, dogs killed in gambling dogfights, taking steroids to build strength to break performance records unethically and lying to Congress, performing all kinds of extramarital illicit relationships, and accidentally shooting oneself in the leg while illegally carrying a firearm. I can go on ad infinitum on this sad state of affairs.

Total Permissiveness without Responsibility. Newspapers and television possess no propriety any more showing in photos and videos our soldiers explicitly shot and killed by enemy snipers, people having sex on beaches, and gory deaths of victims. We do not need to be subject to such freedoms. I prefer not to have the right or freedom to watch such X-rated film with children in our midst in the living room. Our schools distribute condoms to students, politicians seeking to keep parents from knowing that their pregnant children may be getting an abortion, children suing parents on outlandish child-abuse charges, and euthanasia. This is what happens when we allow and create such a permissive society of total rights and total freedom without any associated limits or personal responsibility.

Return to Lawlessness. Soon, we will allow shouting “Fire” in a crowded theater. We will allow obscenities and the “F” word on the news reports and in TV shows. We will allow those who rape the right to do what they do simply because they were born that way, and they cannot help but raping people. We will allow multiple spouses and marrying our own children. We will allow freedom of stalking. We will allow people not to stop at traffic signals or stop signs because stopping limits their freedom of movement and passage. We will create a society with absolutely no boundaries, no laws, no rules, no manners, no nothing. We will achieve full circle and return to the caveman days where “survival of the fittest” reigned. We will have absolutely no limits to our freedoms and rights. We will return to the wild, Wild West. Those are some of the conditions that prevail in Somalia and other such lawless countries.

Secular Progressivism. People desire total freedom but without any associated responsibility. The Bill of Rights gives us freedom of religion, yet societal forces are gradually eliminating religion from our government, schools, and lives and replacing it with secular progressivism and humanism. The Bill of Rights gives us the freedom to bear arms, yet societal forces are moving to take this right away from individual citizens. The Bill of Rights gives us freedom of speech, yet Columbia University student radicals and students at other such pathetic universities curtail and shout down free speech on their campuses made by both Democrat and Republican guest speakers. Those students want their total rights to speak up, assemble, and dissent, yet they will not allow anyone else the same rights if guest speakers’ thinking and words are opposite to theirs. Congress and the new Administration are trying to revive and pass the Fairness Doctrine. Soon talk radio may be eliminated or curtailed. This kind of reaction is where our country is heading against all of the freedoms we hold so dear.

Culture of Total Rights and Freedom. The statement “a culture of suspicion, paranoia, and omnipresent police is robbing our nation of the basic freedoms upon which it was formed” flies in the face of what is really happening in society. On the contrary, a culture of total rights and freedom without associated responsibility and propriety robs us of the basic freedoms that formed our nation. Total permissiveness void of any limitations whatsoever has created most of our societal ills we are experiencing today.

A Society Gone Wild. The police do not rob our nation of basic freedoms. It is a “society gone wild” that robs us of basic freedoms. We do not have enough police to keep this wild society in check. That is why we are losing our freedoms. The campus police stood by while the radical students shouted down, assaulted, and mistreated the guest speakers at Columbia University. What kind of freedom is that? The students had their total freedom of speech, but they robbed the guest speakers of their freedom of speech. That is not a free society as I see it. If the campus police did their job, these incidents would not happen. This was not the “omnipresent police robbing” anyone of their rights. This was a bunch of laissez faire campus police. Nothing would have changed if they were not there at all. Hence, how can the police rob anyone of their freedoms if they do nothing?

Radical Students. The radical students are robbing us of our freedom of speech. The errant students with unfettered rights and freedom had robbed the guest speakers of their rights and freedom. On a national television show held after that fiasco at Columbia University, one of the guest speakers stated that he had “feared for his life” during that incident. What kind of freedom is that, anyway?

An Opposite Perspective. I totally agree with the statement, “There are those in our nation who believe it is necessary to destroy our freedoms in order to protect them.” Yes, it is the secular progressives and the total rights and total freedom folks (i.e., Libertarians) who are “destroying our freedoms in order to protect” their own freedoms. I also totally agree with the final statement, “The more we cave-in to this line of reasoning, the less we can be distinguished from our feared enemies.” These are the reasons why I agree with most of those thoughts. However, I fear I might be viewing it from a rather different perspective from the total rights folks.

Where are we heading? Yes, our feared enemies are the secular progressives, “the enemy within,” and the terrorists or Islamo-fascists who have openly professed to kill all infidels and dominate the world with a one-world government and one-world religion. When they accomplish their ultimate goal, they will have their total freedom and rights. Those of us who survive, but are retained in bondage, will have absolutely no freedoms or rights. That is the way things are heading in America today.
