Can You Pedal Into A Dream?

We pedaled south on the main road into the Grand Tetons National Park. Up ahead, three jagged peaks raged into the azure sky with aspirin-white clouds skidding across the peaks.

From the distance, they make the perfect picture postcard shot for any photographer. On a bike, the post card moves in dramatic fashion. Along the road to our side—yellow, pink, orange, purple and white mountain daisies wafted with the breezes. Above, two hawks soared on the updrafts. Ahead, a chipmunk darted across the road.

From the distance, the gray peaks looked like solid mountains of rock, but as we closed in on those 13,700 foot cathedrals piercing the sky, we saw ice fields turning from white to aqua and then, turquoise. The closer we pedaled to those magnificent summits, each one presented changing personalities. Deep couloirs carried crystal white snowpack right into the summer. The sun reflected off them for a grand color show.

“This site before us looks like a dream,” Sandi said.

“Yup, all we have to do is keep pedaling right into it,” I said.

“Okay,” Sandi said. “And, so we will!”

“I’m with you, girl,” I said.

Still closer, waterfalls erupted at the bottom of the ice fields that gleamed much like silver earrings dangling off beautiful women at the Oscars. Please note that there’s no mortal show on Earth that can compete with Mother Nature.

Each mile we pedaled closer, we saw shimmering glimpses of crystal clear Jenny Lake. Her waters reflected the peaks roaring into the sky. Yet, once again, the mountains changed from a picture postcard to massive anvils in the sky. It was as if the creative powers of the universe hammered those elegant formations into the landscape just to dazzle our eyes, spirits and minds.

Finally, the Grand Tetons showed us why they were so grand and we were so tiny! We rolled the bikes down to Jenny Lake. On the shore’s edge, we parked and sat on some rocks. Jenny’s crystal clear waters sparkled with millions of diamonds. The waterfalls high above us on the sides of the peaks glittered their silver cascading waters.
