Tips and Resources Monthly Energy Efficiency Tip: Keep moisture outside Home moisture levels are an issue for both human and home health, as high levels of moisture can lead to mold growth, decay and degradation. Excess moisture can also reduce the R factor of your insulation which affects your comfort and energy usage. Moisture enters and accumulates in the home in one of several ways: improper ventilation of activities such as bathing or dishwashing, infiltration into cracks and openings from water vapor via air currents, or from transfer through permeable surfaces like concrete floors and foundations. The largest factor of moisture in unconditioned spaces and cavities (over 98%) is infiltration. Proper air sealing is one of the most effective ways to mitigate moisture buildup and mold growth. It can also improve your home’s comfort and efficiency. [ Learn how to control moisture in your home ] Do you have an energy tip to share? Please email [email protected] to submit your tip! |
