North Carolina’s moratorium on utility shutoffs ended in September, which means more than 1 million families across our state are currently at risk of disconnection as winter temperatures persist and the COVID-19 pandemic reaches grim milestones.

Access to water and electricity are key to staying safe and healthy during these times, and preventing shutoffs has been shown to slow the spread of the virus. Reinstating the moratorium on utility shutoffs and extending eviction protections is a critical step in providing relief to North Carolina families and preventing the spread of COVID-19.

It’s time for Governor Cooper and the North Carolina Utilities Commission to reinstate the moratorium, and we need your help.

Email Governor Cooper and the Utilities Commission now and tell them to reinstate the utility shutoffs moratorium and strengthen protections against evictions.
