Lovingkindness/Caring Practice
The Lovingkindness/Caring Practice is used to elicit feelings of kindness and compassion towards self and others. There’s empirical evidence that this practice can reduce biases against groups of people. Lovingkindness practice can be engaged in anywhere — in traffic jams, in long lines, and even during interactions with challenging individuals — therefore, it is a very useful practice.
About the Host: Pamela Nicholas-Hoff, M.Ed., is a PH.D. student in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on using mindfulness-, compassion-, and equity-based practices within pre- and in-service teachers to reduce implicit bias and racial discipline disparities for marginalized students and to improve teacher-student relationships.
Wednesday, April 21 at 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
“The Condor and The Eagle” documentary screening with special guest, Crystal Cavalier-Keck
About the Film: Four Indigenous leaders embark on an extraordinary trans-continental adventure from the Canadian Boreal forests to deep into the heart of the Amazonian jungle to unite the peoples of North and South America and deepen the meaning of “Climate Justice.” The Condor & The Eagle documentary offers a glimpse into a developing spiritual renaissance as the film’s four protagonists learn from each other’s long legacy of resistance to colonialism and its extractive economy.
