Apart from me you can do nothing… Yeshua

These words are pregnant with meaning.  There is so much to think about in regard to them.  Yeshua/Jesus is telling His disciples—shortly before his trial and subsequent death on the cross—that they can do nothing without Him.  In other words, He is letting them know, in no uncertain terms, that life is in Him and through Him and I would also put forth the idea that He is giving them an insight of what their future will hold.  That they must learn to rely on Him and the leading of the Spirit of the Living God.

Here is the entire passage and Yeshua/Jesus is using the description of a vineyard to make it very clear where the disciples and future believers power, abilities, and ministry will spring from:

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;[a] and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will[b] ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. John 15

I’m stating this because one mistake many of us make is that we run ahead of what Father is doing, we get out in front so we are leading instead of Him.  Sometimes in our enthusiasm it’s easy to do!

In 1995 I was in the process of recording three Christian CDs.  It was exhausting work and I was funding the recordings from an equity line—Big mistake.

One day we were sitting in the control mixing one of the songs and I heard the Lord tell me to stop what I was doing!  I immediately began an internal argument with myself convincing myself that this couldn’t be the Holy Spirit’s voice trying to guide my steps.  I pressed on believing I was doing The Lord’s work. To cut to the chase.  The CDs were finished and we made copies of them and tried to market them.  The bottom line was nothing happened, there were barely any sales and in fact I lost friendships and lots of money over the entire venture.  It was a hard lesson to learn but one that I haven’t forgotten.

Here’s the other side of the lesson learned:

A few years ago in 2012 I was working on The Days of Chaos book.  The Lord told me to stop and begin work on, On the Trail of the Nephilim, which I did.  I dropped the Days of Chaos book like a hot stone coming out of a sweat lodge!  LOL !  On the Trail, became our top selling book.

What I’m getting at is this.  We are to mind the checks, listen to the voice of The Spirit of the Living God.  Allow Him to lead us and guide us and realize that apart from Him we can do nothing on own.

The natural man—the man or woman who is not born from above—does not live by this mandate. They are not listening for the checks because their spirits have not been connected to the Living God through the work of Yeshua’s cross.

I have walked with  Him for over 35 years and I realize more now than ever before how much I depend on Him.

When I go out to speak at a conference there are no notes or script, just the pictures, I rely on His anointing and in fact, I pray for it, realizing that I bring nothing to the table other than the pictures.

He is the one who brings the point of the lecture home.  He is the one who brings the jokes.  He is the one who may give a word for someone.  Apart from Him I can do nothing.

He is the true vine and we are the branches.

If you think you know Him but you don’t know Him, you don’t know him….. L.A.
