BELOW IS A STORY FROM 2008:

The day is Feb 18, 2008, Monday – President’s Day and my home phone is ringing off the hook. I thought to myself…”who would be calling me this early in the morning on my home phone, no one calls me on my home phone, they call me on my cell phone!” I pick up the phone and it’s my step-son Jason Randall Porter. Jason tells me to turn on CNN News, that the oil refinery in Big Springs, Texas blew up. Sure enough, it was all over CNN News. Jason took some excellent photos of the explosion and I told him to submit the photos to CNN and to CoasttoCoastAM.

I get an email from Tom Danheiser, Assistant Producer of CoasttoCoastAM and he gives me his telephone number to call him. Not thinking that Jason submitted the photos to CoasttoCoastAM, I call Tom. I am thinking that he wants me on the show to talk about H.P.I. (Haunted and Paranormal International) or that he wants to talk about my latest article “The Elusive Science of the Paranormal”. I am thrilled. Tom tells me he actually wants to interview Jason about the Oil Refinery Explosion in Big Springs, Texas. What the @#$%?

Okay, this is my son, we’re talking about, it’s okay with me. Tom tells me that I am the back-up for the show, in case Jason doesn’t want to do the interview. I tell him that’s fine. Anyway, it’s midnight in Texas when CoasttoCoastAM calls Jason and Jason is dead asleep. They call me exactly at 10pm. A lovely sounding lady tells me to hold on for George Noory. George is busy talking about the oil refinery explosion and finally he comes on and says, I have Paul Roberts on the line, the father of Mr. Anonymous (he is referring to Jason – Jason doesn’t want to disclose his name, because his stepfather who is a chemist at the oil refinery could lose his job if he talks with the media). George says…”Paul, are you there, Paul? Paul?” The lady interrupts and said, “George, we are having phone problems”. Then some guy is talking with George and George says, so you are the father of Mr. Anonymous? The guy says: “Nope, you got the wrong dude, you just happened to be on the phone.” George finally gives up and the lovely sounding lady tells me..”Sorry, Paul..George wants to move on with the show.” I almost got on Coast-to-CoastAM….sigh. I was going to do a sly one and discuss HPI after talking about the Oil Refinery Explosion.
