A blizzard of Criticism for Mayoral P.R. Snow job: FROZEN NYC

I was on ‘hold’ with 311 for thirty-five minutes.

and was told that no complaints are now being taken
We are all of us here, in this Bellerose, Queens cul-de-sac neighborhood still held hostage by high mounds of snow and an equally unpleasant NYC neglect.

Queens, and other neighborhoods everywhere are still unplowed and unsalted; waist-high snow in unplowed icy roads persists a full three days after this blizzard, with drifts as tall as five feet in the centers of streets..

Elkmont and Shiloh, major avenues in Bellerose, Queens, remain neglected.

No distant rumbling of trucks with plows can be heard.

Side streets in this neighborhoods are still impassable;

people are held hostage..

The Mayor’s Office mayoral P.R. and Sanitation, a municipal emergency service, both fumbled the ball..

At the same time, in the North Bronx, several people reported seeing three sanitation trucks with plows and drivers sitting idly for hours along one street, ( obviously ‘milking the system’ by picking up more overtime but picking up no snow!).

Was there a Union ‘slowdown’? Some smell a frozen rat.

I was finally connected, curtly told by the 311 emergency, the city agency ostensibly responsible for actually providing help, that “no complaints are being taken at this time”.

Shameful.

Like the slow, delayed cleanup by Sanitation and other City tree removal services, after two tornadoes hit us, in Queens some months ago, there’s a wide spectrum distance between Mayor Bloomberg’s P.R. and New York City residents’ curbside realities.

Yet, we are often told that we are very lucky to have such a man as our mayor.

Emergency relief from City Services was so nonexistent that people are calling this, NYC’s “Katrina”

Mayor Bloomberg’s successful wresting and bullying yet another term, should make him more responsible.

Such blatant mismanagement, the non response of Sanitation for so long in an expected and forecast blizzard must fall at his door.

Why doesn’t NY City Sanitation have the snap and polish it used to have as a City Service; one wonders why a service response substantially ’crashed’ .

Elderly neighbors everywhere have canceled needed doctor’s appointments as no car service can get in or out. Buses are jackknifed on icy unplowed roads.

Until all side streets are plowed, Mayor Bloomberg’s limousines should be enlisted to transport neglected taxpayers to their doctors and to local hospitals.

As I write this, it’s Wednesday,THREE DAYS after the last flakes stopped falling and no snowplow, sander, or salt conveyance from NYC has yet been into our neighborhood or down our block……

Streets everywhere were plowed in blizzards in the recent past; sand or salt was always put down in early fashion before later plowing, as a preemptive move.

During very heavy snowstorms many trucks were in evidence, repeatedly plowing after each other so that even in severe blizzards, streets were always somewhat passable..

No plows can even be heard in the distance; there’s sounds of silence.
