Will People Prepare Now?

As most everyone knows, North Texas was hit with nearly unprecedented weather starting last Thursday. The roads iced over and have pretty much stayed that way ever since. I read a report of a family that spent 31 hours in their car, on the way to the airport, stuck on the highway. 31 hours, incredible!  And this was on Friday, well after the storm hit.

At one point there were over 200,000 homes without power; now down to about 25,000 homes. Stores have been without resupply for most of the weekend, traffic on major highways are at a standstill. Many tractor-trailer rigs are stuck on the road and the stores suffered a run on basic supplies.

Really has me wondering how many, if any, will learn from this and be better prepared for the next situation. Of course, I wondered that after the last ice storm, the last tornado, the last heat wave and each time it seems that very few people changed their ways.

Maybe the incredible images will help this time. Maybe the scale of this event; 2 to 5 inches of ice and across the entire north Texas area, will make a difference.

I’m just not going to be holding my breathe; I will be adding to my supplies though.
