Americans Fund Gun Control Media Blitz Due To Obama's Repeal Of the Smith–Mundt Act

It’s a well known fact that the United States Government engages in propaganda in other countries at times of war, this divides and destabilizes the people of the nations our military is about to invade. Destabilizing a nation is the first step before the first shots are fired. 

In other words, its purpose was to institutionalize America’s communication and engagement programs with audiences around the world. The Smith Mundt Act reintroduced informational and cultural programming as a new peacetime instrument of foreign policy.

The US Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948 (Public Law 80-402), popularly referred to as the Smith–Mundt Act, specifies the terms in which the United States government can engage audiences, also known as public diplomacy.

The act was first introduced as the Bloom Bill in December 1945 in the 79th Congress and subsequently passed by the 80th Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on January 27, 1948.

 For decades, a the Smith Bundt Act prevented the U.S. government’s mammoth broadcasting arm from delivering programming to American audiences. 

On July 2,2013  that came silently to an end in America with the implementation of a new reform passed in January 2013. An amendment that would legalize the use of propaganda on American audiences was inserted into the latest Defense Authorization Act bill. 

Now ask yourself why would Barack Obama want be able to use propaganda techniques reserved specifically for destabilizing foreign countries, before sending in American troops, on American citizens? 

Ask yourself why are the American people the new target of their own government’s propaganda? 

The restriction of these broadcasts was due to the Smith-Mundt Act, a long-standing piece of legislation that has been amended numerous times over the years, perhaps most consequentially by Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright.

In the 1970s, Fulbright was no friend of VOA and Radio Free Europe, and moved to restrict them from domestic distribution, saying they “should be given the opportunity to take their rightful place in the graveyard of Cold War relics.”

Fulbright’s amendment to Smith-Mundt was bolstered in 1985 by Nebraska Senator Edward Zorinsky, who argued that such “propaganda” should be kept out of America as to distinguish the U.S. “from the Soviet Union where domestic propaganda is a principal government activity.”

Zorinsky and Fulbright sold their amendments on sensible rhetoric: American taxpayers shouldn’t be funding propaganda for American audiences. So why did Congress just tear down the American public’s last defense against domestic propaganda?
