Meet the 12-Year-Old Kid Running a Campaign Office for Donald Trump

I honestly don’t know how to react to this story. KMOV in St. Louis is reporting that a 12-year-old is running a key campaign office in a key swing state, and that is something that is happening in the Year of Our Lord 2016.

[Weston] Imer is in charge of the operation where volunteers will gather and help get out the vote, and while sitting behind a desk may not be the coolest thing to do, he hopes to use the position to inspire others.

“Get involved,” Imer said. “That’s what I’m going to say. Get involved. Kids need to be educated.”

Imer’s mother, Laurel Imer, is the official field coordinator on paper, but she wants to give her son most of the responsibility and help show other parents – Democrat or Republican – how to get their kids involved.

My initial reaction is to sit down with the kid and explain that he should run away – far away – from politics and never look back. I also want to tell the mother to stop this tomfoolery. I also want to tell Donald Trump to do something about this.

Then, I realize that the kid is probably a lot more mature and responsible than Trump and I wish perhaps that he were running instead of Trump.

Who on earth looks at their kid and says “Absolutely. You should be in charge of a campaign office. Why shouldn’t you be? You’re 12. You can practically drive now.” And who, upon hearing a parent say that to their child doesn’t run up and tackle that parent, yelling at the kid to run away? The answer to all of these questions and more is 2016, man. Just… 2016.
