New Gallup Poll On Direction of The Country Is Bad News For Democrats

Not since September 2005 have as many Americans been satisfied with the direction of the United States as they are today, according to a new poll from Gallup.

Thirty-eight percent of Americans are satisfied with the way things are going in the country. This is slightly higher than the historical average of 37 percent since the question was first polled in 1979, but still below the highest years during the economic turnaround in the 1980s and subsequent dot-com boom of the 1990s.

The same poll conducted between April and May 2018, which came on the heels of good economic and job reports, saw an increase from 28 percent to 37 percent.

As one would suspect, the gains in the satisfaction scale are by and large with Republicans and independents while Democrats are largely unsatisfied.

If these numbers keep heading up or even simply stay where they are, as we head into the 2018 midterms, it will definitely spell trouble for Democrats hoping to take some seats away from Republicans in November.
