Rep. Andy Biggs Calls for Waters’s Resignation, Civility Goes the Way of the Dodo Bird

On Monday, a member of the congressional GOP submitted a censure initiative aimed at California Rep. Maxine Waters, asking for her resignation.

The move was in response to Waters’s now infamous call on Democrats to harass Trump’s Cabinet if seen in public:

“If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

This, incidentally, is politics at its most disingenuous and repulsive. Waters was commenting on family separation at the border. She surely knows — unlike, no doubt, her supporters — that family separation was the result of the Clinton administration’s Flores Settlement Agreement, made law by a Democratic Congress and reinterpreted by the left-wing 9th Circuit Court of Appeals during Obama’s presidency (read more about that here, for starters).

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Az., called upon Waters to do three things:

• Apologize to the Trump administration for “endangering their lives and sowing seeds of discord”
• Resign from her position as congresswoman
• Issue a public statement decrying violence and harassment as protest

Hmmm…not likely.

Biggs claimed Waters’s comments at a Los Angeles rally Saturday could “directly and unnecessarily lead to public unrest, physical violence, and physical injury.”

The Democrat’s incendiary call to arms followed White House press secretary Sarah Sanders being asked to leave a Lexington, Virginia restaurant Friday and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen being heckled a Mexican restaurant in Washington three days earlier.

About the Nielsen incident, Margaret McLaughlin, a member of Metro D.C. DSA’s steering committee, released this statement:

“We will not stand by and let Secretary Nielsen dine in peace, while she is directing her employees to tear little girls away from their mothers and crying boys away from their fathers at our border. Secretary Nielsen and everyone else who has carried out these brutal and cold-blooded orders to rip apart families should never be allowed to eat and drink in public again.”

As for Waters, Biggs said, “What she did was to basically incite people to come after and attack members of the president’s cabinet. And also spread that out to more people.”

Indeed, she did. As for his three points, fat chance: Waters has only doubled down since the rally, telling MSNBC Sunday that Democrats are “going to absolutely harass [the administration],” and affirming at a news conference Monday:

“Trump is the one who is creating lies. Trying to have people believe that I talked about harming people. There’s nowhere in my statement, anytime, anyplace that we talked about harm. … I have nothing to do with the way people decide to protest. Protest is the democratic way as long as it is peaceful. I believe in peaceful protest. It is guaranteed to you in a democracy.”

What about the lies of Maxine Waters, pretending as if family separation emanated from Trump?

We are in a very bad place with this. The Left is becoming less and less civil. And now, not surprisingly, their rhetoric is approaching violence (read more about that here).

And it isn’t just the politicians and unhinged citizens — on Tuesday, The Washington Post published former Gawker writer Tom Scocca’s opinion piece which asserted harassing Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kirstjen Nielsen was “the right thing to do” in response to illegal aliens being arrested at the border.

The Left perpetually claims a monopoly on tolerance. Oddly, in practice, that virtue rarely seems to see the light of day. Furthermore, at least in these instances, they trumpet truth while using lies to enforce their intolerance. And it’s virtually guaranteed to get worse before it gets any better. If.
