Abortion Barbie Challenges Rep. Chip Roy

Former Texas state Sen. Wendy “Abortion Barbie” Davis announced her candidacy for the Democrats’ nomination in Texas’ 21st District. Davis is challenging U.S. Rep. Chip Roy. Erick Erickson nicknamed Davis “Abortion Barbie” in 2014 because when she was a state senator, she filibustered an anti-abortion bill temporarily delaying its passage. Davis went on to run for governor and lost to now Gov. Abbott by more than 20 points.

Roy has become a fixture in Texas Republican politics, serving as a staffer to both U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and state Attorney General Ken Paxton.

A spokesman for the National Republican Campaign Committee took a shot at Davis:”It’s beyond parody that Wendy Davis is attempting to make her political comeback in a district she lost by 20 points last time around. Texans resoundingly rejected Davis and her socialist agenda five years ago, and will do so again in 2020.

According to the Texas Tribune, the likely Davis-Roy matchup may be as polarizing as the Cruz-Beto race in 2018. Congressman Roy has built his reputation as a strong conservative. And Davis is first and foremost Abortion Barbie.
