Israeli soldiers clash with demonstrators at protest against new settlements

Clashes broke out between Palestinian demonstrators and Israeli soldiers on Friday, in the village of Deir Jarir, northeast of Ramallah, in the context of activities rejecting the establishment of a settlement area on the lands of the village.

The video footage shows that the Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters at the demonstrators, who were throwing stones at them during confrontations. No serious injuries were reported.

Salah Al-Khawaja, a member of the Settlement and Wall Resistance Commission, said: “All forms of popular resistance must be mobilised to confront the attack and aggression of the settlers, to mobilise against the policy of annexation and the establishment of the settlement constructions. We consider protests the only way to put an end to the policy of settlers and annexation.”

Deir Jarir villagers suffer from the settlement and its consequences, as a result of settlers confiscating their lands, the settlement controls over half of the village.

Walid Assaf, Head of the Wall and Settlement Authority (Arabic}: “Here the annexation plan is being implemented and the division of the West Bank to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. Today we want to confront this project, and the settlement construction project, as well as respond to settler attacks that target our children, women and homes. We say that we will defend our lives and the lives of our children. We will continue these protests”.
