Implications of the strikes on Ukraine’s energy system as of the morning of 24 November

On the afternoon of 23 November, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive missile strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. But as early as the morning of 24 November, power supply was resumed in parts of the regions.

▪️The power supply in Kiev has been restored by 30%, but most districts are still without light. Water has been supplied to the left bank, while on the right bank, where most of the city is located, it should appear within a day. In the region, 1,125 settlements remain without light.

▪️The situation with electricity supply in the neighboring Zhytomyr region is complicated. In Zhytomyr itself, the lights were switched on in the morning, but due to overload, they have been turned off again.

▪ Half of the districts in the Dnipropetrovsk region have already resumed power supply. But many villages still have no electricity, gas, or communications. In Dnipropetrovsk itself, only 15% of homes had electricity as of morning.

▪️In Lviv, most homes have had light, gas, and water restored. Only in some neighborhoods, there is still no electricity.

▪️ In Odessa and the region, the power supply to critical infrastructure has been restored. But most houses are still without light and electric transport is not working in the city.

▪️ In Kharkiv Region, there is almost no light anywhere, and the metro and transport do not work. An Intercity passenger train is stranded in the neighboring Poltava region, with passengers left to fend for themselves. Electricity and water supplies have been partially restored in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts.

▪️ In Kirovohrad Region, light has been restored at critical infrastructure facilities. Some subscribers in Mykolayiv and Mykolayiv region have been connected.

The situation is better in the western regions: apart from the Lviv region, light has partially appeared in Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil regions. The restoration of the power supply was helped back up from Poland and Romania, which provided light to 90% of subscribers.

▪️ A problematic situation remained in the Rivne region, where power was turned on but was switched off due to overload, and in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where the power supply is very unstable.

Ukraine struggles to restore power in war’s first winter

🔻Belgorod region:
