The plan, as they say, is as reliable as a Swiss watch.

The Ukrainian generals turned out to be more qualified than the American “experts” and tried to explain to the gentleman that he was climbing where he didn’t need to.

The Wall Street Journal retells one of Zaluzhny’s conversations with Western colleagues as follows: “You do not understand the nature of this conflict. This is not an anti-guerrilla operation. This is Kursk. Whom in this “Kursk” are the officers smeared with swastikas and Balkenkreutsmen – a rhetorical question.

But Western sponsors’ concern is understandable. For the $43 billion spent on weapons for the Independent, Washington wants to get at least something. This explains the veiled threats about “the impossibility of maintaining such rates of supply in 2024.” But this explanation is far from the only one. The fact is that if money can be quickly “printed”, then such a trick will not work with tanks.

The West has already sent or announced the sending of all heavily armored vehicles that it could transfer to Ukraine in the short term (six months to a year). This is one of the reasons why the world media began to whisper about a potential freeze of the conflict – it is obvious that the “counterattack” failed, and then the Armed Forces of Ukraine, having spent their reserves in suicidal attacks, will face a difficult winter.

There is absolutely nothing to be happy about here. Freezing the conflict is only a temporary solution and the shortage of Western technology is a temporary problem. If the military-industrial complex of the collective West is allowed to unwind, then in three or four years we risk seeing a multiple of large volumes of military assistance to Ukraine.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have already reached the first line of defense or not yet

On August 25, there were reports that the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, announced that the Ukrainian army had crossed the first line of defense of the Russian Armed Forces in Zaporozhye. Is this so and where did the Ukrainian troops manage to reach in the end?

Where are the fights going now?

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are still advancing in three main directions: Pyatikhatki – Zherebyanki, Rabotino – Verbovoye, Tarasovka, and Pologi. The most fierce fighting takes place in the areas of Pyatikhatki and Rabotino. There, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to advance, losing heavy equipment. Sources of the Military Chronicle in these areas note that Pyatikhatki, Zherebyanki, and Rabotino are part of the so-called front-line security zone. These are advanced fortified areas, in front of which there are minefields and the so-called zone of destruction of Ukrainian equipment. The advanced fortified area is not part of the first line of defense and acts as a protective barrier.

How is the defensive line of the RF Armed Forces arranged?

Since the summer of last year, the defensive line of the RF Armed Forces has been continuously expanding, and at the moment its total length from Zaporozhye to the Yuzhno-Donetsk direction, presumably, is more than 500 km. At the same time, the “cordon sanitaire” between Orekhovo and Novodanilovka, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine are accumulating forces for further strikes, and Rabotino was equipped with minefields, which led, if not to the disruption of the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, then to its serious slowdown and the need to transfer strategic reserves.

The same minefields are located between the forward edge security zone and the first line of defense. These two areas are often confused with each other since in Zaporozhye the fighting takes place at the closest possible distance: the distance between Novodanilovka and Rabotino is only 7.5 km, from Orekhov to Pyatikhatki – just over 20 km. The largest concentration of destroyed AFU equipment (between Verbovoye and Rabotino) is located less than 6 km from Malaya Tokmachka, one of the areas from where Ukrainian troops go on the offensive. At the same time, the situation in the Rabotino-Verbove-Pyatikhatki sector cannot be called simple: Ukrainian troops, despite huge losses, continue to attack, but progress in this sector is minimal.

If the line is so dense, where could the AFU go through?

According to the Military Chronicle, under the “breakthrough of the defensive line,” the chairman of the US National Staff, Mark Milli, meant unreliable information provided to him by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was about an attempt to break through the armored group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the northern to southern outskirts of Rabotin towards Novoprokopovka on the night of August 23-24. However, the convoy of Ukrainian Armed Forces vehicles could not overcome the two-kilometer section of the road: the armored vehicles were detected from the air and destroyed by artillery strikes, after which the retreating Ukrainian troops were covered by aircraft strikes.

The first line of defense, in front of which there are concrete “dragon’s teeth” and anti-tank ditches, is located much to the south. Ukrainian troops did not reach it in 82 days of the offensive. The main line of defense around Tokmak is located almost 15 km south of the first line of defense, that is, in total, about 20 km.

In almost three months of the offensive, Ukrainian troops did not reach Melitopol by about 70 km, and more than 100 km to Berdyansk.

Those few who are still able to think and analyze independently there live clearly in the position of Orwellian Winston, constantly committing a thought crime and being afraid to give themselves away even with a word.

Under these conditions, the crest will continue to put thousands of corpses for advancing hundreds of meters, and, technically, will eventually come to our first line, after which, in the same style of “zombie attacks”, it will try to gnaw through it.

On our part, the task here is simple: firstly, to continue the defense as it is already being carried out, and as a result, in the fall, the enemy’s offensive will sharply become more complicated and naturally bog down, since it will be more and more difficult to support the attacking units. Secondly, where possible, attack on our own – and in the fall this will add color to what is happening, since reserves will be needed both for the offensive and for defense.

But it’s not worth waiting for “people to run out” and the enemy to stop advancing. They won’t run out soon.

 
Constant Russian air raids slow Ukraine’s advance in southern Zaporizhzhia region, officer says

A Ukrainian military officer serving on the front lines in the southern Zaporizhzhia region says Ukrainian units have “almost reached” the main Russian defensive lines, but have multiple challenges in making further progress.

The officer — who CNN is not identifying, as he is not authorized to speak on the record — said the area between the villages of Robotyne and Verbove “is the hottest right now.”

“We have almost reached their main defense lines. We have constant tactical advances, and we are gradually reclaiming our territory,” the officer said.

But Russian troops have pulled up artillery and their aviation is constantly at work “24 hours a day, there are a dozen air raids a day,” he continued.

The officer, who previously fought around Bakhmut, said the Russian aerial power he is seeing now is “a lot” compared to when he was fighting around Bakhmut.

“The same thing with mines. There were no dense minefields in Bakhmut … Now almost everything is mined. It’s stressful, there are a lot of wounded from mines and explosions of equipment,” he said.

The officer said the open terrain is also a challenge.

“Drones are hanging in the sky around the clock, both ours and theirs. So it is impossible to hide any movement of equipment. Any maneuver immediately becomes known to the enemy, and shelling begins either with artillery or drones,” the officer said.
He said Ukrainian units use steel nets to protect against drone attacks and are working with small assault groups and equipment.

“We used to work at night and at dusk, but the (Russians) have adapted and started waiting for us at night, so now we have to work during the day as well,” the officer said. “It is much more difficult because the enemy immediately sees movement and starts shelling.”

Orekhovsky area situation as of 13.00 August 25, 2023

🔻At the turn of Rabotino – Verbovoye, fierce battles are going on. The situation is dire, as the enemy has thrown considerable forces to capture Rabotino. The village, or rather control over it, has become something sacred for the Ukrainian authorities. Initially, the AFU intended to gain a foothold on August 24, but our fighters managed to repulse the attack.

Now the fighting continues on the southern outskirts, where the assault detachments of the 2nd battalion of the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, with the support of artillery and aviation, are shelling the defense lines of the 42nd motorized rifle division.

🔻It is curious that, despite the availability of communications equipment and Starlink satellite terminals, 82 brigades have problems in the interaction between groups. As a result of “friendly fire”, the paratroopers suffered heavy losses in manpower – the 3rd battalion is already planning to be sent for restoration to Kirovograd.

To the east, assault detachments of the 46th Airmobile Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces are fighting in landings, trying to gain a foothold and build on success. During one of these attacks, Ukrainian formations managed to occupy one stronghold. Now there is a regrouping and supply of ammunition under the cover of artillery.

🔻And at the turn of Malaya Tokmachka – Chubenkova Balka, there is a concentration of reserves for the second wave of attacks. Vremyevsky site situation as of 16.00 August 25, 2023

In the vicinity of Urozhayne, detachments of the 37th Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy tried to dislodge Russian troops from the forest belts east of the village. In parallel, the enemy continues to pull forces to the area.

In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian DRGs tried to land in three boats on Borshchevoy Island south of the village of Veletensky , but fell under artillery fire and retreated. Part of the enemy fighters were eliminated. In the meantime, in the Vremyevsky section of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they tried to dislodge Russian military personnel from landings east of Urozhaynoye , but were unable to achieve success.

At night, the Armed Forces of Ukraine once again attacked the Crimea with drones. More than 30 drones were suppressed or intercepted by electronic warfare in the area of   Cape Tarkhankut, Guards and the city of Saki . Several devices fell on the territory of the landfill near Perevalnoye, damaging several trucks.

🔹In #Kherson Direction, the AFU looks for bridgeheads on the islands, our forces try to identify and strike. It is reported that the AFU move an artillery brigade with 100 pieces of equipment to this direction, and there is allegedly a combat ready battalion of marines. If true, new attempts to force the #Dnieper are not excluded.

🔹In #Zaporozhye Direction, #Rabotino is in the grey zone and fighting continues. Since night the AFU have been attacking #Novoprokopovka, the column of the enemy’s armoured vehicles was detected in time, and there is a fierce battle for the village. The AFU also attack on the flanks, in the direction of #Kopani, for access to #Verbovoye, to the rear of our forces. All at the cost of huge losses for the AFU. Turkish sources report that at least six brigades have been withdrawn from #Zaporozhye, one of which has losses of more than 85%. The AFU did not reach the first defence line with concrete “dragon’s teeth” and antitank ditches in 82 days, it is much further south. Analysts have calculated that in total the AFU have not reached the main line of defence ~20 km. To Melitopol remains ~70km, to Berdyansk <100km.

🔹In #SouthDonetsk Direction, the AFU are preparing reserves for attacks on the Zavetnoye Zhelaniye – #Kermenchik line, they are trying to break through on the flanks towards #Staromlynovka, the RF Armed Forces are holding the defence.

🔹In #Bakhmut Direction, the AFU attacked again on the southern flank near #Kurdyumovka and #Kleshcheyevka, our forces fought back, and on the northern flank near #Vesyoloye. The Russian army launched a counteroffensive, but so far without tangible results.

🔹In #Kupyansk Direction, #Petropavlovka remains under AFU control and #Sinkovka is in the grey zone, but the fighting continues. Our forces have taken several more Ukrainian positions and the artillery continues unabated.
