I had a suburban homestead 15 years ago, with gardens, fruits, chickens, and stockpiles for a year. Even after letting all of that go I feel a sense of wealth with the knowledge and experience that I’ve gained. I know I could do it again. (I still have a garden wherever I go.) I must say that it takes a lot of space to grow enough food to feed a balanced diet for a family. There are also many expenses to raising animals such as feed and fencing. My advice is to start small, with the intent or plan of expansion. Start your pantries. Begin with a few chicks. Learn organic/natural techniques because Nature will always be you.
