What will happen is what happened back in 1991: the workers will go on strike, and within hours Congress will order them back to work, forcing them to accept the deal that the Biden administration worked out – that gives them a 22% raise over five years with 14% immediate, but does not address the schedule issues and the one-man rule – which 90% of the workers say is unacceptable.. They could strike anyway, but as the air-traffic controllers found out, this is very risky. I’m sure the allegedly pro-union Democrats would love nothing more than to support a union that has obviously been horribly abused by the owners, but the reality is that they politically cannot afford a protracted rail strike no matter what The companies know this, and are digging in and lowballing, knowing that Congress will assuredly come to their rescue. It sucks because these workers have been utterly screwed – and will continue to be utterly screwed – and deserve much better.

Hi Patrick, We have trains through NE Colorado everyday and yes a mile long is the length. I guess they must fit between country roads and have restrictions on how long they can block a main road. You get used to it and we need the trains transporting! To your comment on military, we have trains rolling through with camo military vehicles, tanks, etc. Headed to storage or active duty??? It’s Colorado so we have military bases. They also transport all those blades for wind turbines that require petroleum products to make and operate!!! We have fields of wind turbines and fields of solar panels to supplement energy which is OK but please everyone realize we have room for ALL forms of energy! Blessings all!
