Groundbreaking Designer Establishes New Era of Fashion Mixing Computer Technology and 3D Printing

New York, NY (July 17, 2014)–Paving the way in innovation with “disruptive manufacturing”, designer Francis Bitonti, (http://www.francisbitonti.com/), is taking the fashion world by storm with his 3D printed gowns. The former architect has been focusing on his ability as a fashion designer, honing in on a whole new outlook on haute couture through the Fancis Bitonti Studio in New York City. Bitonti is fueling a new wave of eccentric and creative designs while fusing his two passions of tech and fashion. He begins creating each garment by using computer technology to design and work out specifications. Then Bitonti incorporates 3D printing technology to bring the one-of-a-kind piece to life. With an entirely fresh view of what materials are considered textiles, Bitonti first made a name for himself after creating the first fully-articulated and functional gown for burlesque darling Dita Von Teese. Now the architect-turned-designer is committed to changing the industry by using today’s technology to interpret previously untapped creativity.

“Design has always played a role in all of my work,” begins designer Francis Bitonti. “There are so many different technological advances happening day to day, but most people don’t really know what to make of it. I like to think that my architectural past helps me see things in fashion and technology that others don’t. When it came to the gown created for Dita Von Teese, there were a ton of doubts. This had never been done before, but thinking of materials and measurements as data has opened up so many doors. I’m a firm believer in the idea that with a little basic knowledge here and there, people can make the impossible possible.”

Meshing his fine eye on advancing technology with his designer brain, Francis Bitonti was able to bridge the gap between fashion and technology, shattering all thoughts of skepticism after teaming up with Michael Schmidt Studios, Shapeways and Ace Hotel to create the first fully articulated 3D printed garment. Bitonti  has since been able to successfully create a new era of haute couture fashion design through the usage of scientific algorithms, computer coding and 3D printing technology. Currently, Bitonti is running educational workshops around the world to teach designers, of any background and skill set, to use computers and advancing technology as an artistic medium. The intent is to provide students with the necessary tools and freedom to create new iconic forms. The New Skins: Deus Ex Machina recently took place in London from July 7th through July 18th, 2014. Francis Bitonti is now bringing the News Skins: Bestial Bodies to San Francisco, California from August 4th through August 15th.
