Expert Psychiatrist Nizamuddin Khaja, MD, ABPN, to be Recognized as a 2016 Top Doctor in Georgia

Nizamuddin Khaja, MD, ABPN, Chief Medical Officer at Highland Rivers Health and Medical Director at Crisis Stabilization center in Cedartown GA, has been named a 2016 Top Doctor in Georgia. Dr. Khaja has been a practicing psychiatrist for nearly three decades, and in that time he has gained a reputation for excellence across Georgia and beyond. His medical career started in his native India in 1986, when he graduated from the Sidharatha  Medical College in Andhra Pratesh. After moving to the United States he completed a residency at East Tennessee State University during that time he was the Chief Resident, after which he started working for Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Hospital in the capacity of Chief Inpatient Psychiatry and clinical Associate Professor with Quillen College of Medicine in the department of psychiatry.

With his wealth of experience as a board certified psychiatrist, Dr. Khaja treats a wide range of conditions, but is seen as a specialist in the treatment of bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia,Depressive disorders,Post traumatic stress disorder ,substance abuse and Personality disorders. He is also passionate about helping to educate the public about mental health, and is determined to remove the stigma that is still attached to mental illness.  Furthermore, Dr. Khaja is affiliated with the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Rome chapter; where he partners in teaching Crisis Intervention Training to the police department.

Indeed, teaching is at the heart of what Dr. Khaja does, as he also teaches medical students, nurse practitioners,physician assistants  in his role as Clinical Associate Professor at the Medical College of Georgia. In addition, Dr. Khaja has extensive experience treating War Veterans suffering from PTSD. When not working or teaching, he likes to relax by reading or listening to music, and is also a keen hiker and tennis player. His dedication to improving public perceptions of mental illness makes Dr. Nizamuddin Khaja a very worthy winner of a 2016 Top Doctor Award.
