Skilled Nurse Amanda R. Banks, BSN, RN, to Be Published in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare

With an upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, Amanda R. Banks, BSN, RN, joins the prestigious ranks of the International Nurses Association and works for Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Michigan.  She has four years of experience specializing in administration, cardiology, project management, kaizen methodology-process improvement, staff coaching, training, and mentoring.  Amanda is currently serving in a newly created position called a Kaizen Fellow.  Her role allows her to enhance her work ethic by working hospital-wide on operational processes, flow, and safety for patients.  In addition, she is assisting in project management within specific departments that are working on special quality improvement projects to enhance their department work flow. As building transformational leaders within her organization is important she is able to do so through their kaizen events at her hospital. She received specific coaching/training from a Stanford University workshop which helped teach further engagement for the staff she coaches in their strategic development in critical thinking. More specifically, having staff identify problems, fix problems quickly, make independent decisions, establish ownership, accountability, and enhancement in participants leadership within the hospital system.

Amanda states that nursing is such a giving field and has always been a giving person that loves to follow through on problems that are issued. As she has worked clinically with specific patient care for many years, she feels she is here to impact and empower her staff /leaders within. Amanda wants to provide those within her organization with the tools, resources, and knowledge of how to help the staff make their experience at work and the patients’ experience optimal. This newly created position has helped offer others staff within her hospital opportunities to grow, critically think, and find solutions quickly to make rapid change occur. According to Amanda, “Our staff is our future and they need to feel the next step of growth in nursing which is transformational leadership. By empowering our front line staff, they are able to show higher work productivity and satisfaction within their work day which in turn increases patient satisfaction. When staff are unhappy and feel they cannot make changes then patient care can potentially be hindered. Through our kaizen events, staff are able to take control of their environments and be the drivers for their patients which have increased patient outcomes and patient/family focused care within our hospital system.”

Amanda earned her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Oakland University in 2012 and is currently pursuing her Master Degree in Innovation in Intra/Entrepreneurship in Nursing Advanced Practice, with an expectation to graduate in 2018 with being the first nurse innovator in Michigan.  Amanda is certified in ACLS and BLS.  She maintains professional membership with the American Nurses Association, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, Michigan Chapter of American College of Healthcare Executives, American Health Quality Association, and the Women’s Employee Resource Network.

She links her success to her family’s support and love, as well as her mentors and leaders within the Beaumont Health organization, who have helped guide her to this new level of opportunity in leadership.   In her spare time she enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, physical fitness, and spending time with family and friends.
