With an upcoming publication in the Worldwide Leaders in Healthcare, Norma F. Pichardo, APN, MSN, FNP-C, CBN, joins the prestigious ranks of the International Nurses Association. Norma is a Registered Nurse with seventeen years of experience in the field of nursing and extensive expertise in various areas of nursing. Norma is currently serving patients as an Advanced Practice Nurse at Sovereign Medical Services, in Glen Rock, New Jersey. She has previously worked as the Bariatric Nurse Coordinator at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey.

Norma attended Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey and was awarded her associate degree of nursing in 1998. In 2011, she earned her bachelor degree of science in nursing with honors from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey. Moreover, Norma obtained her master degree of science in nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner concentration in 2015 from Rutgers University – Newark. She is a Certified Bariatric Nurse by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, Certified Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Certified Basic Life Support and Advance Cardiac Life Support provider through the American Heart Association.

Norma stays current in the nursing field through her professional society memberships with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. She is also an inductee of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and recipient of various recognitions and accolades, including the Perioperative Services Nursing Excellence Award (2010), CNJNE Professional Nursing Scholarship (2010), Academic Excellence Award by PCCC (2010), Mom in Medicine Award by 201 Magazine (2011), and Nursing Hero Award by Commerce Magazine (2015). When receiving the Nursing Hero Award by Commerce Magazine in May of 2015, Norma indicated “ I treat all of my patients like they are members of my own family-with respect, dignity, and, most of all, I show them that I truly care.”

Norma is also active in the community and served as a volunteer guest speaker for St. Joseph’s Healthcare System’s RUSH Program, a 12 week community based wellness program for the prevention of Childhood Obesity.

Norma feels that her success is attributable to her compassion and caring for her patients. She works with a community that benefits both from her skills and her ability to  be bilingual in Spanish and English, these attributes have been key contributors to building a successful career. Norma feels rewarded by the transformations that her patients achieve. Also, her family’s support has been very important in the pursuit of furthering her education and her career. In 2010, Norma participated in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The mission was organized by the Foundation for Peace and afford Norma the opportunity to assess patients of all ages in the rural community, provide education to all levels and also collect donations to bring to the Dominican Republic. When she is not working, Norma enjoys spending quality time with her family; as well as, water parks, reading , gardening and doing crossfit.
