They’ll never reach a point where they are able to transfer consciousness into another vessel, and at this point there isn’t a single definition that can be agreed upon concerning what exactly consciousness is. They may be able to replicate a person’s neural pathways, memories, and personality characteristics and place it in a robotic body or computer program, but it still wouldn’t be them—merely a second-rate copy. That hardly qualifies as immortality in my opinion.
The closest they’ll get is likely similar to what is depicted in the movie “Surrogates”. People may be able to control robotic or clones vessels remotely via thought through a computer interface and virtual reality, but it will be done remotely and the person’s actual consciousness will still remain intact in their real body, although they would receive sensory input from the vessel via the virtual interface.
For all the ‘bible prophecy’ folks out there; if they managed to actually pull this off it would certainly fulfill this:

It’s also worth pointing out that even if they manage to accomplish these things, going through with such procedures would leave you entirely at the mercy of those who program and control the bodies and networks. They would be able to limit—as well as force—you into any activity they wished, and likely control your thoughts and mental processes as well, essentially eliminating free-will entirely. You would truly be trapped in their ‘Matrix’ for as long as they deemed fit, and if they were sadistic enough they might even make you pay a exorbitant fee just for the luxury of death.

The current fastest computer in the world, can run about .002% the amount of calculations per second that the human brain can run.
In 1981, the first commercial computer processor ran at 2 Mhz. My current outdated laptop, runs a quad core processor, with each core running at roughly 1,500 Mhz, meaning it could run about 6,000 Mhz. My computer is from 2013. So in 33 years, computer speeds for commercial hardware increased around 3000 times. If that same trend continued for super computers, which of course it may, or may not, for better or for worse, then the best super computer in 33 years could potentially run at 6% of the calculations per second of the human brain.
Major breakthroughs, such as quantum computing, could greatly increase that number. Of course, a major collapse of humanity could also greatly hinder it.
But just at current technology trends, we could see 25% of a human brain being done by a computer in 132 years. In 528 years, it would be equal. 33 years after that, it would be exceeding. A long time away. But humans were already being amazing creatures 528 years ago, and the idea of humans surviving another 528 years back then, would seem just as incredible as it does now.
We might not see these breakthroughs in our lifetime. But other humans might. Our view on it now, might be hesitant, but what will we be like in 600 years? How different is the average Christians views now, compared to 600 years ago? How different will they be, in another 600?
I hope the human race continues to be incredible.

Charlie here. One cannot transfer a spirit. Your cells are animated by the spirit who the Bible says RETURNS back to Yahuah who GAVE it when you expire.
So what are they transferring? Something much inferior. A replica, a projection, an imitation recording. Much like the way people see human attributes in animals. If they can make it look and act like you, it must be you?
