Social Media Goes Nuts Over Romney’s “A Better AmerCIA” iPhone App

As a Mitt Romney is announced by the media to have clinched the GOP presidential he releases a new iPhone app with the slogan ‘a better AmerCIA’

Known as the Etch-A-Sketch candidate for flip-flopping on so many issues and having his own campaign giving him the label, Mitt Romney has released a new iPhone ‘Mittstagram’ app to allow his supporter help him work for a better A-M-E-R-C-I-A.

The gaffe has gone viral, with twitter a blaze in tweets, major news outlets covering the story and even joining in to poke fun at Mitt ‘Rmoney’, while a tumblr page has been set up to collect mock photos using the new slogan.

Here is the actual screen shot which some how all of his developers, QA team, campaign staff and even the Apple reviewers didn’t catch and apparently neither did Mitt because he brought attention to the app by personally promoting it on his twitter feed.

Romney Misspells America as AmerCIA on iPhone App

CNBC reports:

Mitt Romney’s new iPhone app misspells the word “America” and the typo has gone viral.

As Romney clinched the GOP presidential nomination with a victory in Texas last night, his campaign released its “I’m with Mitt” app that allows users to post photos of themselves along with 14 different banners. One of those slogans reads: “A Better Amercia.”

The typo lit up Twitter as various people poked fun at what “Amercia” stood for. One example, highlighted by Mashable, “While #Amercia does have a nice ring to it, Romney’s developers of “his” app may want to begin looking for new jobs.”

Twitter has gone nuts so in an attempt to do damage control, Mitt is running promoted tweets in a sad attempt to draw peoples attention away from the #WithMitt and #Amercia hashtags being use to ridicule the gaffe.

Mitt Romney’s new iPhone app, With Mitt, “lets you customize photos with a variety of Mitt-inspired artistic frames.” Slogans like “Believe in America,” “Obama Isn’t Working,” and “I’m a Mom for Mitt” are just a few of the Mitt-tastic phrases that can be slapped on your iPhone photos, proudly pronouncing your support of the GOP candidate.

If only he was equally as concerned with supporting our great nation. Much to the delighted displeasure of Twitter, one particular frame option betrays Romney’s secret agenda working toward bettering a place known as Amercia.

Yes, that’s A-M-E-R-C-I-A.

It’s a misspelling of America, presumably? How clever of you.

So what’s the big deal? Well, the fact that the person responsible for the misspelling wants to be president of Amercia.

America. That too.

Mitt Romney? Ronmey, I think we now prefer to call him.

What happened? To coincide with Ronmey winning the Texas primary and thus securing the Republican nomination, his campaign launched an “I’m with Mitt” iPhone app that allowed users to take a photograph and then superimpose one of 14 different phrases over it before posting the picture on to Facebook or emailing it to a friend.

Sounds like the sort of thing that passes for politics these days. “We thought this would be a fun, easy way to showcase support,” said Zac Moffatt, the Ronmey campaign’s digital director.

So what was the problem? One of the 14 stock phrases that appeared alongside “I’m with Mitt” was “A better Amercia”. Ronmey is now a national laughing stock.

Twitter sensation, Tumblr phenomenon, unamusing online picture galleries, chortling among shockjocks, phone-ins on local radio stations in South Dakota, etc, etc? Try to treat this potentially game-changing event a little more seriously please.

Who designed the app, Dan Quayle? Ah, a joke for older readers. Quayle was the elder George Bush’s running mate in the 1992 presidential election, and at a spelling bee in New Jersey managed to change a 12-year-old’s spelling of “potato” to “potatoe”. The Republicans lost the election, and Quayle was never heard of again. An omen?
