Mosque Building Out lawed in Slovakia

Slovakia refuses Islam completely and does not allow the construction of a single mosque. Slovakia is the last EU Member State not to own a mosque, reports TRT World. Previous attempts at construction have been halted by politicians.

The country does not recognise Islam as a religion and has only a few thousand Muslim inhabitants. Islam should not be taught in schools and the 5,000 mostly European Muslims residing in the country are not officially recognised. They represent only 0.1% of the population.

In 2007, politicians changed the laws so that the state must recognize the 20,000 signatures of members. In 2017, they more than doubled the number of signatures needed.

Not being officially recognized poses major difficulties for Muslims. Among other things, they are not allowed to have official religious leaders, to celebrate Muslim marriages or to receive financial contributions from the state, rights that 18 other recognized religions possess.

‘Islamization begins with the kebab and has already started in Bratislava. So, understand what it could be in 5 to 10 years’ said MP Andrej Danko. ‘All Europeans, Christians or even atheists fear this creation of the satanic paedophile devil,’ roars another critic.

According to TRT, the situation was even more complicated for the country’s Muslims in the context of the 2015 asylum wave. Slovakia then invoked the absence of mosques for not accepting migrants. The TV channel claims that Slovakia is violating European human rights legislation by banning the construction of mosques.
