Bill Allows Doctors, EMTs To Refuse Care of Gay Patients and More

In Michigan, Lawmakers are weighing whether or not doctors and EMTs can refuse treatment of gay patients citing religious beliefs.
A bill called the Michigan Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) sponsored by House Speaker Jase Bolger would allow emergency life-saving services to be witheld from you by a caregiver if they didn’t believe in your lifestyle.
House Bill (HB) 5958 has already passed the Republican-led House (59-50) earlier this month and is now headed to the State’s Senate. HB5958 is based on the Federal RFRA, signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1993.
Charlie Langton, a legal analyst chiming in on the subject, made a comparison between gay individuals and kosher meat in a statement to CBS Detroit.
Chris Girard, 6th Ward Bay City Commissioner, has started a petition against HB5958 (you can find the petition HERE). he says,
“I just think back in the 1960s, when we were going through civil rights, when people were told they couldn’t be served. Can you have the same things then with folks who are a different sexuality?” said Girard, who represents Bay City’s 6th Ward. “I know specifically a lot of the folks who are opposed to this are concerned about (LGBT) folks, but it opens it up to anybody.”
Passing a law that allows discrimination is not just a step-back, it’s America jumping off the cliff. The reality is, this law not only brings back what this country has fought hard to obliterate, it also opens the door for any kind of discrimination against any one at any time. As Time Magazine says,
“Freedom of Rleigion Shouldn’t be Unconditional.”

Then you can’t claim you live in a fair equality based society, you are living under a state enforced thought and belief intolerant dictatorship. The same state enforced thought and belief intolerant dictatorship your ancestors fled to America to escape.
