Who are the Two Witnesses, really?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Who are the two witnesses in Revelation 11? They prophesy for 42 months. What does this mean? Moses and Elijah met with Jesus on a mountain to be the two greatest witnesses that Christ was the Messiah. They are symbols for the Word of God, the Old and New Testaments. But who are the two witnesses, really?

Zechariah 4:11-14
11 Then I asked the angel, “What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?”
12 Again I asked him, “What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?”
13 He replied, “Do you not know what these are?”
“No, my lord,” I said.

14 So he said, “These are the two who are anointed to[a] serve the Lord of all the earth.”

First of all lets get something straight. Many think or believe the two witnesses will be Moses and Elijah because in Matthew 17 talks about Moses and Elijah meeting Jesus at what is now known as Mount of Transfiguration. But that will not be the case if you do your homework and research, you will learn that only two who went to heaven at that time did not die a physical death. For it is appointed for all men to die as written in:

Hebrews 9:27
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
But remember….

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:8
If you remember That would be Elijah and Enoch. Here… let me show you.

The name belonged most notably to Elijah, the Hebrew prophet. The Quran refers to this prophet in Arabic as Ilias (إلياس), the prophet who was born in Baalbek, east of Lebanon. The King James Version of the Bible also uses “Elias” in the New Testament as the English translation of the Greek name for this prophet.

Mark 9:2-32

2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?
12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

Moses died and if fact his body was fought over.

Jude 1:9
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

These two gentlemen DID NOT die a physical death of the Bible.

And Elijah “Elias” was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire.

2 Kings 2:11
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

The Book of Genesis mentions Enoch as one who “was no more” because “God took him” as also mentioned in Hebrews.

Genesis 5:24
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Hebrews 11:5
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

Why did God take Enoch and Elijah to heaven without them dying?According to the Bible, Enoch and Elijah are the only two people God took to heaven without them dying a physical death.

Genesis 5:24 tells us, “Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”

Second Kings 2:11 tells us, “Suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.”

Enoch is described as a man who “walked with God for 300 years” (Genesis 5:23).

Elijah was perhaps the most powerful of God’s prophets in the Old Testament. There are also prophecies of Elijah’s return in

Malachi 4:5-6
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.
6 And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children,
And the hearts of the children to their fathers,
Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

Why did God take Enoch and Elijah? The Bible does not specifically give us the answer. Some speculate that they were taken in preparation for a role in the end times, possibly as the two witnesses.

Revelation 11:3-12.
3 And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.” 4 They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.”[a] 5 If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. 6 They have power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.

7 Now when they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the Abyss will attack them, and overpower and kill them. 8 Their bodies will lie in the public square of the great city—which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt—where also their Lord was crucified. 9 For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. 10 The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

11 But after the three and a half days the breath[b] of life from God entered them, and they stood on their feet, and terror struck those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here.” And they went up to heaven in a cloud, while their enemies looked on.

This is possible, but not explicitly taught in the Bible. It may be that God desired to save Enoch and Elijah from experiencing death due to their great faithfulness in serving and obeying Him. Whatever the case, God has His purpose, and while we don’t always understand God’s plans and purposes, we know that “His ways is perfect”

Psalm 18:30
As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.

      It’s a ruse, there’s only one witness.

You answered your own question when you said Enoch walked with Yahuah for 300 years. So that means he DIED otherwise it wouldn’t state that. Why only for 300 years he would walk with Yahuah?

And for Elijah Yahuhsha has specifically said, no man has ascended to heaven. So Elijah has also been dead and buried – on earth.

… no “man” is in Heaven.

the alternative interpretation is that the two witnesses are elijah and moses, representing the prophets and the law…

1 Kings18:7-17 As Obadiah was walking along, he suddenly saw Elijah coming toward him. Obadiah recognized him at once and bowed low to the ground before him. “Is it really you, my lord Elijah?” he asked. During Jehoram’s reign, the Edomites revolted against Judah and crowned their own king. “Yes, it is,” Elijah replied. “Now go and tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’” “Oh, sir,” Obadiah protested, “what harm have I done to you that you are sending me to my death at the hands of Ahab. For I swear by the LORD your God that the king has searched every nation and kingdom on earth from end to end to find you. And each time he was told, ‘Elijah isn’t here,’ King Ahab forced the king of that nation to swear to the truth of his claim.

11 And now you say, ‘Go and tell your master, “Elijah is here.”’

12 [But as soon as I leave you, the Spirit of the LORD will carry you away to who knows where.]

When Ahab comes and cannot find you, he will kill me. Yet I have been a true servant of the LORD all my life. But Elijah said, “I swear by the LORD Almighty, in whose presence I stand, that I will present myself to Ahab this very day.”

2Kings 2:14-18 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send. 17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not. 18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?

This is made clear in the scripture because about seven years later (7 yrs by comparing 2Kings 3:1, I Kings 22:42, and 2Kings 8:16) we find Elijah still on earth having written to the King of Judah, Jehoram .

So we see that the scripture shows that Elijah continued to live on earth.

Now we look at Enoch’s disappearance in Genesis 5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

Notice that it does not say God took Enoch to Heaven.

As far as Elijah goes, we discover after reading the following, that God merely removed Elijah and placed him someplace else. HE, God, did the same for Phillip in Acts 8:26-40. Nothing more or less.

2 Kings 2:11 As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a chariot of fire ap+peared, drawn by horses of fire. It drove between the two men, separating them, and Elijah was carried by a whirlwind into heaven. (Heaven also means through the skies and not only God’s Heavenly Dwelling)
Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father! My father! I see the chariots and charioteers of Israel!” And as they disappeared from sight, Elisha tore his clothes in distress.

1Kings18:7-17 As Obadiah was walking along, he suddenly saw Elijah coming toward him.

The people went off looking for Elijah. Why would they go on a three day journey through the countryside to find a man who was “not even on the earth”? These people KNEW that Elijah was transported from one earthly location unto another. They were just not sure where he ended up but they knew he was returned to this earth.

This is made clear because about seven years later (7 yrs by comparing 2Kings 3:1, I Kings 22:42, and 2Kings 8:16) we find Elijah still on earth having written to the King of Judah, Jehoram .

      2Chronicles 21:12-15

vs 12: And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, LORD God of David your father says, Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah………,- The word rendered writing is “miktab” [Strong's # 4385] meaning a letter, a thing written, a document, a writing.

Elijah continued to live on earth.

Re: Enoch’s disappearance in Genesis 5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: 24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

It doesn’t say anywhere that God took him to Heaven, just that HE took him.

God Tells us that Enoch walked with God; simply means that Enoch was a man of God who lived according to God’s Ways; lived a Godly life and spoke God’s Truth well.

For God Took him….simply means that Enoch died or he was transported somewhere else for whatever reason God had. It does not mean that God put him in Heaven to come back down to earth in the future for some other reason as many so believe of Elijah. They lived, Enoch and ELijah, they died and will be in the First Resurrection to receive their inheritance. Everyone has died. We know this from Hebrews 11:13.

We’re in our New Covenant with our Creator as you know. God is the Only One Who Teaches without leading anyone astray. He and He alone Tells us what’s what.

John 5:39-40 You search the Scriptures, for you believe they give you eternal life. And the Scriptures point to Me! Yet you won’t come to Me so that I can give you this Life Eternal.
2 Corinthians 3:5-6 Not that we are competent of ourselves to claim anything as coming from us; our competence is from God, Who also has made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives Life.

1John+ 2:27 But you have received the Holy Spirit, and He lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you all things, and what He teaches is true–it is not a lie. So continue in what He has taught you, and continue to live in Christ.

1John 2:19-21 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
