US Nazi Eugenics Program: N. Carolina to Compensate Sterilized Victims

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

North Carolina has become the first state to offer monetary compensation to victims of government-sponsored sterilization, a huge win for human rights in the United States..

The North Carolina Eugenics Board program authorized sterilization of an estimated 7,600 people by choice, force or coercion, according to Russia Today (RT) on Saturday.

Verified victims will be issued a share of $10 million by 2015.  State Governor Pat McCrory has signed this into law.

In the past, “Under North Carolina’s law, ultimately anyone could request that someone be sterilized, though a diagnosis of either “feebleminded, epilepsy, or mentally diseased” had to be verified by “a psychologist, a physician who has made a specific examination to determine epilepsy, or a psychiatrist,” source documents state of the petition procedure,” RT reports.

“Petitions would then be assessed by the state’s eugenics board.”

The sterilization campaign included a pamphlet issued in North Carolina to raise awareness and support for eugenics.

A 1950 pamphlet stated the program was “extolling the benefit of selective sterilization in North Carolina.

Its text began by stating:

“North Carolina’s Selective Sterilization Law: Protects … its mentally handicapped men and women, the children of future generations and the community at large. It saves … thousands of taxpayer dollars, needless human tragedy, wasted lives.”

American eugenics inspired Nazi Germany eugenics

America’s wealthiest and most influential leaders, including oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller Sr., railroad tycoon James J. Hill and steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie, were among American eugenics leaders.[2] Charles Lindbergh and Henry Ford were eugenics enthusiasts as well.

Most appalling of all, many states had compulsory sterilization programs motivated by eugenics.

Not surprisingly, later in court, Germany referred to America’s eugenics program as a precedent.

Nazis in America

Nazi history and post-war Nazi influence in the United States have been suppressed.

From Vampire of Macondo, Chapter 8, Nazis in the Gulf:

In 1945, the U.S. government began bringing what would eventually be more than 12,000 key Nazi scientists and doctors to the U.S. in Operation Paperclip.

The New York Times obtained a document that clarified even better the need to stop that machine. It was a 600-page Justice Department report,[1] without many redactions, about the CIA’s link to Nazis.[2] The Justice Department had tried to keep the report secret for four years.[3] On November 14, 2010, the Times was first to report about it in its article, Nazis Were Given ‘Safe Haven’ in U.S., Report Says. The Times called the report the most damning aspect of the Central Intelligence Agency’s link to Nazis brought into the U.S. The strong Nazi history and its present influence in the United States have been suppressed.

“Scholars and previous government reports had acknowledged the C.I.A.’s use of Nazis for postwar intelligence purposes,” the New York Times report stated. “But this report goes further in documenting the level of American complicity and deception in such operations.”

The report names some of the most infamous Nazi scientists and doctor responsible for the Jewish holocaust and then brought to the US: Dr. Josef Mengele, the so-called Angel of Death at Auschwitz, Arthur L. Rudolph, and Otto Von Bolschwing, “an associate of Adolph Eichmann who had helped develop the initial plans ‘to purge Germany of the Jews’ and who later worked for the C.I.A.”

The New York Times report reveals that the “Justice Department itself sometimes concealed what American officials knew about Nazis in this country.”

Despite the long suppression of the Nazi influence on Americans and the Obama administration’s attempts to keep the report from the public, due to determination by the late Mark Richard, a senior Justice Department lawyer, this major part of US history was revealed in newspapers.

In 1999, Richard convinced Attorney General Janet Reno to begin a detailed look at the US Nazi history, assigned career prosecutor, Judith Feigin, to the job and he edited the final version in 2006. He “urged senior officials to make it public but was rebuffed,” colleagues said.[1]

“When Mr. Richard became ill with cancer, he told a gathering of friends and family that the report’s publication was one of three things he hoped to see before he died,” the colleagues said. He died in June 2009, and Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. spoke at his funeral.

“I spoke to him the week before he died, and he was still trying to get it released,” Ms. Feigin said. “It broke his heart.”

After Mr. Richard’s death, David Sobel, a Washington lawyer, and the National Security Archive sued for the report’s release under the Freedom of Information Act.

Thanks to Mr. Richard, Ms Feigin, Mr. Sobel and Eric Lichtblau’s New York Times reporting, roots of the most sordid U.S. policies and practices today, such as non-consensual human experimentation, torture and eugenics can finally be seen by those willing to look at the Nazi-CIA partnership revealed in the report.

Nazi doctors’ and scientists’ experimental atrocities in Germany, such as exposing humans to poisonous chemicals and germs, shocked the world when exposed at the time. Few people today, however, are aware that those atrocities, resultant of German eugenic policies,[1] were and are strongly connected to a German-American bond or America’s leadership of that German eugenics policy.

Finally! Let’s work to make all the other states follow.

Interestingly, with all the communist scare tactics used in this country, and the imprisonment of influential reform leaders like Eugene Debs (who won a significant vote for president while in jail), there was plenty of proto-Nazi influence on federal and state policies before, during and after the second world war. The fascists, whatever they choose to call themselves (e.g., Democrats, Republicans), have had a far more deleterious effect on our country than the socialists and communists have.
For all intents and purposes, the one percent are pursuing fascist objectives, including survival in the escalating hard times that are upon us.
Wake up, ninety-nine percent. We are expendable in the minds of the one percent.

$1315.79 Well, perhaps they can use this huge sum of money to go to one of George Bush’s colleges? Remember when his tax rebate of $300 was suggested to do that? The government has not gotten any smarter and they are the ones who need to be sterilized. Better yet executed.
      Do the world a favor.

10,000 control the world of 7 billion. Does anyone see a problem with this? Like one expecting one ground of pepper to season a 50 pound bag of finely ground table salt.

The math is indeed 1300 or so per person ..10000000/7600 is just under 1316 bucks per person…a tiny sum for what’s been done to them..but it’s better than nothing, and better late than never…and the precedent will hopefully make officials less willing to carry out abuses..

Good to see I’m not the only one on BeforeItsNews who is not ultra right wing (or any other kind of rightwing) in the stories they read and post and who are not xenophobically thinking we must stomp on the rights of the weakest among us..thanks for posting

At least more people keep awakening to the fact that Nazis have been in control of the US for decades.
