NASA’s caption: “NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity acquired this image using its Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI), … on September 1, 2015, Sol 1091 of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, … When Curiosity acquired this image, the ultraviolet (UV) LEDS were on.”
In the yellow boxes are artificial hot pixels. In the red circles are tiny circles around white dots. Those tiny circles are Martian red blood cell remains that fell on the calibration target on the rover’s deck . In this figure alone, there are numerous red blood cell remains, visible in www.flickr.com/photos/fossil_lin/21089623501/sizes/o/ .
In that largest figure, one pixel is about 10 micrometers across, as that figure has been enlarged 400% from the source image at mars.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/raw/?rawid=1091MH00051501304…

Red arrows point to red blood cell remains, two of which were floating in the holes of the sieve. Each hole in the sieve is 150 by 150 micrometers. The diameters of the red blood cell remains measure about one sixth of 150 micrometers.
