NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity acquired this image using its Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI), located on the turret at the end of the rover’s robotic arm, on October 21, 2016, Sol 1496 of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, at 06:50:21 UTC.

Red lines mark larger drill tailings that were to be moved from around the drill hole. Compare the above image with mars.nasa.gov/msl/multimedia/raw/?rawid=1497MH00019000105… .

Now Gone:

NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity acquired this image using its Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI), located on the turret at the end of the rover’s robotic arm, on October 22, 2016, Sol 1497 of the Mars Science Laboratory Mission, at 09:54:15 UTC.
