NYC Says Students Can Cut Class To Protest Climate Change

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

City public-school students can cut class to hit Friday’s “Climate Strike” as long as they have parental permission, the Department of Education announced last week. Pathetic.

Just for starters: It’s not much of a “strike” if The Man is practically begging you to “resist.”

And in this case, it’s not just the mayor tweeting out his support for the rally, or the DOE declaring the Battery Park affair to be a “civic event” and the student strike as “principled truancy.”

It’s also the regular curriculum: Both the Passport to Social Studies and the Civics for All curricula include lessons with examples of student protest, youth organizing for change and the impact of environmental issues on society.

The DOE’s also pushing for schools to foster classroom discussions on the impact of climate change and the importance of civic engagement this week. And the “education” about how the planet is doomed starts practically in pre-K these days.

The DOE has no plans to check that any kids actually attend, nor to verify that no teen forged a parent’s signature on the permission form. We guarantee that plenty of kids will just enjoy a day off.

As for those who attend, well: “Maybe they would be better served learning about the subject in class,” as one veteran teacher told The Post.

How dare you dissent? “New York City stands with our young people. They’re our conscience. We support the 9/20 #ClimateStrike,” Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted last week.

All this is out-and-out government sponsorship of a particular point of view — not just that human activity contributes significantly to climate changes, but that this is an extinction-level threat that justifies specific radical action. And the indoctrination is relentless.

At this point, the real teen rebels will be sorely tempted to show up at the rally and burn some coal.
