Whenever plumbing problems arise, they often come suddenly, which makes them nothing less than an emergency which nobody wants. So, the best thing to avoid an emergency is to perform a regular inspection of your household plumbing fixtures to make sure all of them are in perfect condition, and if there is any kind of problem you get to know that before it becomes a serious issue and leads to a catastrophe. Regardless of how efficient this is, many people get confused about what to check-in. So, here is a checklist for your household plumbing inspection that you can follow and make sure everything is in sound condition.

Bathroom

First of all, you can go to the bathroom because the bathroom is used a lot in households and certain parts installed by the plumber in the bathroom can get damaged over time.

Faucets – You need to check Faucets installed in a shower, tub and sink because they are often used the most and are resultantly more prone to damages. It is important to check for leaks regularly in the faucets and replace all the faulty ones that are dripping, with new ones because dripping of water can be problematic as it can cause major damage on the walls and other surfaces over a long period if not addressed on a timely basis.

Drains – Just like anything else in the bathroom, drains are used very often and there can be all types of things that could get stuck inside the drains which can lead to damage if not addressed on the regular basis. The shower and tub drains are more prone to hair clogs and soap clogs which also potentially lead to blockages, which could be very costly to fix, it is better to be prepared.

Toilets – There are many running parts in a toilet and all of them can wear down due to regular usage. You need to remove the tank lid of the toilet and observe it while flushing it. You need to make sure that the water is not kept on running even after shutting off because that can waste a lot of water. Fixing this can be very easy as you can fix the area from where the dripping is taking place.

Caulk seals – This is not the most frequently used part of plumbing, but once it fails the water from a bathtub or shower can get behind the walls and can ruin them.

Kitchen

Another place where heavy fixtures are attached in a household is the kitchen and you need to inspect all the fixtures on a regular basis to make sure that the problems are found on a timely basis.

Sink drains – Just like drains in a bathroom, we need to make sure that drains in the kitchen are also not getting blocked because certain parts of the food can get stuck in those drains and can be problematic if not dealt with on an early basis.

Faucets – Kitchen faucets leaks are one of the most common problems in the kitchen plumbing fixtures and it is to be taken care of on a regular basis.

Shut off valves – These valves are those that control the flow of water to the refrigerator, dishwasher, and sink faucet and they should be inspected so that if there is a leakage of water when the valve is closed, it could be fixed.

Sewer and septic

If there is a stoppage in the septic system that is attached to the main communal line, it can be a very worrying issue and can also pose certain health risks. So, we should not take any risk in this area and must perform regular inspection and maintenance for preventing this.

Septic system maintenance – If you are living in a rural area and septic system which is drain field then the best bet for you to keep the problems away is to keep them serviced regularly and if you have a tank system then make sure the tank is pumped out whenever it becomes full.

Sewer main maintenance – If the municipal civil line serves your house, then you need to make sure that the mainline is not blocked and you can do so by regular maintenance and inspection. Sometimes tree roots or other such items can get stuck and cause stoppages.
