New Kia EV9 Three-Row SUV Details
Kia has released more details of its upcoming three-row electric SUV, the EV9. The EV9 is comparable in size and capability to the Kia Telluride crossover. The EV9 will have two battery size options, four trim levels, and both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options.
To maximize interior space, the Kia EV9 has a 122-inch wheelbase (vehicle length is 197.2 inches) with short overhangs. The EV9 GT-Line model, which will be the top trim point, adds body trim pieces that lengthen the crossover by 0.02 inches and its height (due to roof rails) to 70.1 inches. Width also extends to 77.9 inches in the GT-Line. Ground clearance is 7.8 inches and towing is rated at up to 5,000 pounds in the AWD models.
The standard powertrain for the Kia EV9 will be a 76.1 kWh battery with a 215 horsepower motor driving the rear wheels. Upgrade options will include a 99.8 kWh battery with a 201 horsepower motor or a dual-motor design produces 379 horsepower altogether. The AWD system will have torque vectoring for up to 516 pound-feet of total output. Range estimations are up to 300 miles per charge with the larger battery and rear-wheel drive.
As previously announced, the EV9 will have 800-volt electrical architecture to enable ultra-fast charging on capable high-speed DC fast chargers. This allows a 10 percent to 80 percent charge in under 25 minutes, with a maximum DC charging speed of 236 kW. An on-board 11 kW charger allows Level 2 charging at higher rates as well.
The Kia EV9 enters the market in the fourth quarter of 2023 as a 2024 model year vehicle.
