Screw Taboos. Urban Prepping for a Planet X Poleshift

How the hell do you prep for the end of the world as we know it? It’s hard I tell ya, devising, researching and training oneself to become self sustainable in the face of a viciously unsustainable and seemingly doomed society. Human, our over populated cities and countries, society, is ripe for collapse and a dark age. I hate to say it but think about it. All it would take is an extended power outage. With trillions in debt, the copper from wires across the continent would be gone in days. We may be at the tipping point now. But wait. There’s more doom. What if a massive rogue planetary system is going to shift the poles when it passes by earth. The power will go out. The system will collapse. The economy crumbles. It’s a barter system. It’s survival of the fittest and I at least prepare for many potentialities.

For years I’ve been making preparations for hard times ahead. I live a fulfilled and happy life, I work outside and love my wife and family. But in my heart, in my soul and spirit I know what’s coming one of these days. It ain’t gonna be pretty. Nope. It’ll possibly be the most terrifying events in humanity’s near future. A poleshift. So how does anyone prepare for a Planet X inspired ‘doomsday’ anyway?

Firstly move from the coastlines. The seas may get rough, to say the least, and it will pay off to be inland far away from fault lines and volcanoes(or nuclear reactors!) I live in Quebec. I live in a city so hey, if things get harry I’m definitely a goner right? Who knows if I would have to bug out hundreds of miles north to avoid radioactive fallout, or the dust from a yellowstone super volcanoes eruption. The river may flood or the riots may burn the city. The problem is I don’t own a car. The roads would be grid locked anyway I tell myself. If I was a looter those motorists would be sitting ducks in the traffic jams. Break the window point a gun or knife. My survival plans had to be flexible. So I looked to permacultrue for the answers to my urban bugging in and out situation.

I started acquiring the physical knowledge. Books are essential resources for urban survival and gathering a large collection of homesteading, permaculture, self sustainability, botany and survival books is intelligent when the internet goes down. Through the books I learned how to brew beer and m dandelion wine, how to make cheese and soaps. I gathered a store of supplies to do so. Beer and soap are useful bartering currency. I learned about plants and have gardened now for seven years, even in winter I am sprouting in hemp bags over my sink. I grow reishi and shitake mushrooms under my counter and herbs like oregano and rosemary indoors by the windows. Also I’ve created a prized vermi-compost that lives indoors during the cold winters and contains 20 pounds of worms if not more. They could be dried and crushed into a paste or flour, fried or used for fishing bait. Laugh all you want. Those containers of worms are a squirming source of protein in rough times and compost is a natural heat source too.

Having the equipment and tools needed for a sustainable life on hand tomorrow is essential. It could be soon that the lights go out and you’re on your own. For light, radio and recharging things I am a fan of crank flashlights, lanterns and generators. These things may take calories to run, but it’s better than batteries. Though I do have a solar charger for AA batteries just in case. I think in the dark times music will be important for morale and recharging my i-pod with a crank generator seems like a worthwhile investment. Music means morale in my world should the SHTF.

Seeds and plants for the after time are important. I frequent seed fairs and accumulate many heriloom varieties. But I like exotic one too and have moringa trees that will hopefully survive the winter indoors. Plants like aloe are great to have for cuts and scrapes, for digestion and balms. I keep a lime and kumquat tree, ornamental maybe but an important source of nutrition and vitamins when they fruit. Kumquats are decorative mini oranges and plum full of vitamin C. Keeping many varieties of important seeds like hemp, corn and beans is paramount, plus sprouting seeds like alfalfa and mustard. There could be changes in environment but chances are hemp would still grow. The seeds are a valuable source of fiber and nutritious oils.

In a long term collapse situation one must have the capability to acquire meat and protein, to learn and trap. To snare and skin an animal. In a bug out situation because of planet X, I may need to survive off the land. Steel traps are included in my INCH bag, along with extras for my bug in gear. If the grid is down don’t let your cat out as I will eat him! For smaller game there are slingshots, crossbows and netting plus the resources to make dozens of traps and snares. Fishing will become important and having the capability to cast a line (with a fat worm on it) or set a gill net across a stream may save your life.

For shelter hopefully I can stay home and not leave a refugee with a 50 pound INCH (I’m never coming home) bag on my back. If so I may be able to whether the chaos in the city, though I am aware of the dangers of a high density urban environment. Contingency plans for safety include my basement, my rooftop, a nearby cave should there be a meteor hit or vicious solar storms, plus the crawl space between floors for hiding gear and storage. It is difficult to look ahead and assess what may or may not transpire should a massive planetary object be sighted in our skies. The scenarios are endless and I may be dead before I know it anyhow. Yet one thing is certain. If I’m not I am going to give myself the best possible chance to survive and thrive in a collapse situation. The less you depend on the teetering system that we’re all so dependent upon, the better in my view.

After Planet X is visible, or the power goes out due to some solar flare or coronal mass ejection, you will have only what you own to survive the new epoch. Barter goods are essential too and having cash, extra lighters, gold and silver, ammo and supplies is always a good idea. Keeping extra smokes, booze( or beer) weed, toilet paper or soap are all good bartering ideas. But really in preparing for a Planet X arrival you need to be flexible and adaptive. It may be necessary to dig a trench or grave in the backyard, to fortify your house or to leave for the hills. You may need to grow food and fruits on your rooftop, or mushrooms under the sink and sprouts in a jar. There is no telling what may happen or may not, yet it is best to be prepared for anything and every eventuality.

Good luck.
