Buffalo River National Wilderness Area

There was a time in America when family was more important than how much money you made. There was a time when families worked together, worshiped together, and planned short little “stacations” together. 

America has been overlooked, as people became wealthier it seems Americans weren’t interested in what they had in their own backyards, no, they were working hard, earning a good living, and planning vacations in far away places, because they had earned it, right?

Well, times they are a changing, with lockdown after lockdown, do this, don’t do that, wear a mask, stay 6′ away from everyone, new variants popping up almost every week, airport protocols that many Americans just won’t comply with so they stay home. 

Well, while you’re thinking about it, don’t give up, think about all the places in America that you haven’t seen yet. From Florida Keys to Yellowstone, to the Great Southwest. There are so many natural wonders right in our own backyards and yet many of us just haven’t taken the time to enjoy what God has blessed us with right here in our own country. 

Most of my followers know that my focus has been on politics and the economy, but today I am going to share some real hopium with my viewers. 

Last week a friend of mine called me up and shared with me that his health is failing and he may have prostate cancer now, he is going for more tests next week. He asked me if I would go camping up the Buffalo River with him for three or four days. I’m always so busy with work and life, I never take time for myself. I agreed to go, this person has been a good friend for a long time and I would hate to have to say I missed this opportunity to spend time with him before the next journey of his life begins.

North Arkansas’ Buffalo River, the country’s first national river, is roughly 150 miles long, and includes nearly 95,000 acres of public land along its corridor. It has been the topic of a full-length book, the subject of a National Geographic feature article, and the cornerstone for the state’s environmental movement.

But the Buffalo is much more than an ongoing display of natural curiosities. It is, in the words of the National Park Service, “an island of time and space.” It is a valley where turn-of-the-century lifestyles and landscapes still exist. It is a place that refreshes the spirit. 

This place is in the heart of America and it’s natural beauty is astonishing. From small game like squirrels, rabbits, bobcats, river otters, to deer, elk, bear, coyotes, and the fishing is phenomenal, smallmouth bass, catfish, Trout are impossible not to catch. There are so many of them. 

So we loaded up the truck and a small boat, away we went. The videos below are NOT my friend and I, but it is the same stretch of river that we just traveled the last three days. God bless everyone and may peace be with you all.

This video is exactly the way the Buffalo River looked this weekend. 10 degrees Saturday morning, warming to a high of 48. Wildlife seemed to be everywhere. This video is well done and gives you a real good feel of the geography and wildlife that is so priceless in today’s world. (Often, So Overlooked In Today’s World)

One more thing, this video reminds me of how life used to be, father, son, day trips, 3 day trips, then we would have family trips and bring mom and my sisters.. Life was so much simpler then, and so much more enjoyable. Only you can change your environment.
