Something is Coming - Possible X- Flare EVENT & CME at the Northeast Limb - Solar Update Nov 4

SOMETHING IS COMING: None of the sunspots on the Earthside of the sun are actively flaring. A sunspot just around the bend, however, could break the quiet. Earth-orbiting satellites are detecting flare activity behind the sun’s northeastern limb. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observaory recorded this flash of extreme UV radiation on Nov. 3rd at 11:56 UT:  http://spaceweather.com/

Although the eruption was partially eclipsed by the edge of the sun, it registered M6,5 on the Richter Scale of Solar Flares. This means the actual flare was much stronger, possibly even an
 X-flare. The same hidden active region produced a M2,2-class flare and CME on Nov. 3rd:  
Again, because the flare was eclipsed, the actual eruption was probably much stronger than its nominal classification.

In summary, something is coming. Soon, the sun’s rotation will carry this active region into view and it will be possible to assess its potential for more flares.

2014-11-03 23:37 UTC  One region disappears, a new one takes its place

Region 12192 is one for the history books, but a new region rotating into view (Region 12205) is a cause for concern.  The region has been the source of two Radio Blackout storms on 3 November, an R1 (Minor) Radio Blackout and an R2 (Moderate) Radio Blackout.  It has also been the source of several coronal mass ejections (CMEs), which Region 12192 seemed to be incapable of producing.  None of the CMEs seen so far pose a threat to Earth, but as the region rotates into a more favorable position, that could change.  SWPC forecasters are keeping a close eye on this region and we will keep this page updated as conditions warrant.
