Breaking News: Bus-sized Asteroid Is Set to Pass Extremely Close to Earth (+Video)
UPDATE: ASTEROID FLYBY: Today, Sept. 7th, a truck-sized asteroid is flying past Earth only 21,000 miles above our planet’s surface. At closest approach, 2016 RB1 will actually skim the orbital-zone of geosynchronous satellites. The odds of an impact with any spacecraft are, however, negligibly low.

Asteroid 2016 RB1 will pass by Earth at a distance of 21,000 miles (34,000 km). Its closest approach to Earth will be on Septeber 7, 2016 at 17 20 UTC.
2016 RB1 is about 40 ft long and will pass by Earth at a speed of 33,000 miles per hour. It has a condition code of 5.
The space rock was spotted by scientists on Monday night, which means that we would have had a little time to react if the asteroid was headed on a collision course for Earth.

I hate to break this to you, but there have been people killed by meteorite impacts, look it up. Some of these were not very large.
