NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity acquired the above microscopic image on July 14, 2019, Sol 2466, in Gale Crater, Mars.
Fourteen red arrows point to remains of tracheids (a type of wood cells, see notes 1, 2, 3). There are circular pits on tracheids. Geological processes cannot form these circular pits.
