Pagan Eye: Jane's Amazing Rhubarb and New Shoots

My friend and fellow witch Jane Mortimer wanted to share her first Book of Shadows entry of this year, about her amazing rhubarb. She also took the photo above, showing regrowth on 1st January 2023. It’s a sign that spring will soon be on the way, even though it’s still winter.

The plant that never sleeps ….

I’ve taken this photo on 1st January 2023, and although it’s only a couple of weeks since the snow finished off the last of the big leaves, the rhubarb is sending up new shoots already.  They’re even trying to push through the rotting remains of a leaf on the left of the pic.

It’s long overdue for splitting and re-planting, but my rhubarb never stops giving. Every year I say I’ll pick and eat more, and every year I fail, so I guess it’s putting all it’s strength into next year’s growth.
