Miguel Cabrera Possibly At First Base For Red Sox In 2010
Ft. Myers, FL – Don’t be surprised to see Miguel Cabrera traded to the Red Sox at some point in 2010. Speculation last fall was that Miguel Cabrera could be the answer to the 2009 Red Sox offensive impotency.
The Miguel Cabrera Red Sox trade rumors have been swirling for nearly one year. ESPN reported in April 2009 that the likelihood was strong of a Boston Red Sox trade for the Detroit Tiger First Baseman Miguel Cabrera.
Cabrera’s lifetime stats make him a top trade prospect for a large market team like the Red Sox.
In December WEEI Radio in Boston had this to say on the possible Cabrera trade:

Of course, there remains the possibility that economic realities at some point might force the Tigers to deal a player who has six years and $126 million remaining on his contract. But for now, there hasn’t been evidence that Detroit is looking to move the four-time All-Star.

The Detroit News’ Lynn Henning lists the Red Sox as the prime candidate to be able to land Cabrera via trade, not only because they can afford it but because they have the necessary components for a potential trade. Henning mentions 25-year-old hurler Clay Buchholz as a key piece of the trade puzzle, a still-developing right-hander who could complement Justin Verlander and Rick Porcello in the Tigers’ rotation.
