Wizards' Arenas to Spend 30 Days in Halfway House

Due to last month’s gun charges, Washington Wizards’ guard Gilbert Arenas was sentenced to 30 days in a halfway house on Saturday.
The three-time All Star was found guilty on felony charges for bringing several guns into the Washington Wizards locker room.
Arenas will also get 400 hours of community service and two years of probation, writes the National Post.
“The result was a sentence that serves justice very well,” said Arenas’ lawyer Ken Wainstein in a statement via the Associated Press. “Mr. Arenas is grateful to the court, and looks forward to serving the community and once again being a force for good in the District of Columbia.”
Probably the worst thing Arenas will receive is a hit to his reputation. The Post writes:
You can argue that what he has lost — some US$7.4-million in salary, another year of a career that had already been beset by multiple knee surgeries, and a good deal of his reputation — is enough. But this was clearly an insufficient sentence: under Washington’s powerful gun laws, and given the prosecutor’s blistering sentencing recommendations brief, no prison time sends the message that the rich and famous can skate away when they break the law.
