Grading the Yankees Friday deals

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I don’t think there will be a better time for me to return to writing than right now.
Maybe you already know all of the moves the Yankees made – and the moves they didn’t make. Maybe you’re asking yourself, What moves? Or, maybe you just want to hear me blab (thanks).
So, on Friday…
The Yankees signed Carlos Beltran to a 3-year, $45 million deal.
Pumped they finally landed Beltran – do you need to be reminded of his postseason numbers? But, the Yankees gave the 37-year-old (in April) one too many years.
Grade: B+
The Yankees signed Hiroki Kuroda to a 1-year, $16 million deal.
Sweet, thanks for not returning to Japan. That makes three starters in the rotation. Now what?
Grade: A
The Yankees signed Kelly Johnson to a 1-year, $3 million deal.
Say hello to the Yankees’ current starting second baseman. Is this really Cashman’s replacement for Cano at second? Still, for some reason, I look forward to John Sterling’s home run call for Kelly Johnson more than the rest of the newcomers.
Grade: B-
The Mets signed Curtis Granderson to a 4-year, $60 million deal.
Sad to see a great guy leave the Bronx, but at least he isn’t going far. He will certainly be missed – except for all of those K’s.
Grade: A+
The Mariners signed Robinson Cano to a 10-year, $240 million deal.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. … Wow. Wuh. Whaaaatttttttt exactly were the Mariners thinking?
Grade: C-
Should the Yankees have kept Cano and/or Granderson? More of my thoughts here.
Pretty big day, eh? And just so it’s all in one place, here’s what else the Yankees have done this winter.
The Yankees signed Jacoby Ellsbury to a 7-year, $153 million deal.
Way, way, way too much money for a player with comparable numbers to Brett Gardner. This deal is unjustifiable.
Grade: D
The Yankees signed Brian McCann to a 5-year, $85 million deal.
I’m glad they signed a quality overall catcher, but somebody please explain to me what McCann did to warrant a 40% pay raise? Rent in NYC is bad, but not that bad.
Grade: C+
There you have it. Are the Yankees done dealing this offseason? How would you grade these deals?
