Ezekiel Elliott’s Reps Say He Won’t Play in the Regular Season Without a New Deal

Things are starting to get a little sticky when it comes to the case involving the Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliott.

ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports that representatives for Elliott have told the Cowboys that he will not play during the 2019 season without a new contract.

The source added that at this time, it is not likely that Elliott’s holdout continues into the regular season, based on the belief that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to get a new deal done before the regular season opener.

How a deal gets done with Elliott is complicated, as the team is already working on new deals for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Speaking Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, executive vice president Stephen Jones said he does not believe there is enough momentum to finalize deals with Prescott, Cooper or Elliott while the Cowboys are in Oxnard, California, for training camp.

“We’ve been generous on our offer,” Jones said of Elliott’s contract.

The fact that the running back is staying away is not a good sign, and it sounds like the situation is going to get a lot worse than better.
