Eddie Jones U-Turn on Itoje

Eddie Jones has, it seems, performed a 180 degree turn in terms of his attitude towards the possibility of Maro Itoje captaining England.

Quoted in his new book, Leadership, which was serialised in The Times shortly after the recent internationals, Jones had said that he did not believe Itoje was captaincy material as the player was too inward looking.

Itoje’s behaviour during the recent November window has, however, changed Eddie’s mind with the England coach telling The Telegraph: 

“I’m going to contradict myself …  I’ve got no doubt in the future he will captain England, whether that’s in my time or someone else’s time…”

Jones was impressed, it appears, with the job Itoje did in November in facilitating communication within the squad.

So, that’s all right then.
