Ravens Draft Michigan EDGE David Ojabo in Second Round

This is a guy we were talking about potentially needing to trade UP from 14 for a few months ago. Of course, that was before he tore his Achilles at his pro day. You feel for the kid, but perhaps all’s well that ends well. He ends up back with his college defensive coordinator in Mike MacDonald, who you have to assume was lobbying hard for his former player.

This doesn’t cure the Ravens’ pass rush woes to start 2022. But this is incredible value, and Ojabo will be an absolute monster when he does get back on the field, whenever that is. Basically a third first-round pick.

Of course the Ravens land David Ojabo.

WOW. I never thought Ojabo would fall to the 45th pick. The Ravens are getting stellar value in this draft and this defense is going to be scary the next few years. Tyus Bowser is already back working out in the off-season program.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Ojabo plays midway through the season. There were plenty of good players on the board and I would have been very disappointed if they didn’t take him. Eric DeCosta is on fire.

I’ve been banging the Ojabo drum for a while, but I wasn’t sure the Ravens were going to be in a position to wait on him to heal up. The Ravens take their medical evaluations VERY seriously, so if they believe he’ll be able to contribute quickly, I’m all in.

Oweh and Ojabo reunited as book ends with Macdonald as their DC? Be still, my heart.

We’re all aware of DaOjabo’s injury, and the realization that this is not a selection of instant gratification. But we also should focus on his unique explosion, effort and the fact that new Ravens Defensive Coordinator Mike Macdonald knows exactly how to use this talented player when he returns to health.

If the Ravens get a second contract with this player, the guess here is this will be looked back at as a selection of ridiculous value. If not, hey… the Ravens already landed two players before Ojabo. They could afford a risk here. Can’t you already imagine Oweh and Ojabo meeting at Joe Burrow several times a season?

With new safeties in Marcus Williams and Kyle Hamilton, and the expected healthy return of Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey, a dynamic pass-rush could truly make life difficult for opponents.

I am absolutely over the moon with this pick. Ojabo was a popular pick at 14 before his Achilles’ injury, and now the Ravens are able to grab him a round later with him still expected to come back this season. I also love taking a slight risk after landing two elite prospects in Hamilton and Linderbaum. The Ravens’ front office is firing on all cylinders and letting the board come to them, and this year, it’s working perfectly.
