The Full Deployment of the World's Eighth Largest Army Goes Unnoticed....
In case you missed it in the news, the world’s eighth largest army successfully deployed and conducted widespread and sustained operations involving the live fire of ordnance against a native population, in which they inflicted significant loss of life while incurring no casualties themselves.
You likely missed it in the news because the events described above took place entirely within the state of Wisconsin (HT: voluntaryXchange):
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That’s great. There were over 600,000 hunters.
Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world – more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined – deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.
But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan’s 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.
Of course, they still lack an effective air force to seriously challenge any of the more well-known armies, but perhaps that’s beginning to change….

Just be thankful that there are at least 2,700.000 people Armed in just those four states mentioned. Now adding the other 46 states, some larger, some smaller, and those that have guns, the number goes to about 200,000,000 million guns. I know that number is a lot higher then that figure, but be thankful we have the Armes to fend off the goons from a government out of control here in the US. Perdictions for 2011 say that you should be prepared for the fall of America. When the government sends out their goons to do their dirty work, herding the people off to the FEMA camps, those armies are going to meet them head on.

I don’t understand the purpose of this article. Why are you bragging that so many people have murdered innocent animals??? Do you actually believe people need to eat dead flesh to be healthy and survive? You are extremely badly mistaken!!! Let hunters hunt each other, at least the hunted will have a slight chance of protecting themselves, unlike the animals they so brutally murder!! These monsters are also the type of people that teach children that murder is perfectly normal and that the flesh of dead animals are good to eat and it is perfectly normal do do so. It’s celebrating the rarity of hunters NOT being killed when facing UNARMED opponents! The poster thinks this is good evidence citizens could hold off trained, armed and armoured combat troops.

I’m someone who was under martial law during the aftermath of Katrina. There was full blown martial law in southern Louisiana and Mississippi. Curfews, gun control, alcohol prohibition (there was a small riot over that one in my county), gas rationing, food rationing the whole nine-yards. Louisiana is called sportsman paradise(because of all the hunting and fishing) and I don’t know a single family in southern Mississippi that doesn’t hunt. At the time I was also a hunter. The hunters were effectively neutered by storm and the government. People are very compliant when they are hungry or they are extremely out numbered by Marines. (yes they were Marines, not National Guard) I have to admit, I didn’t agree with a lot of what was going on but I’m not about to start mouthing off to three trucks full of Marines. Or the many, many, many police we had from all over the country. It’s pretty easy to oppress you will on people that are desperately hungry/thirst and outnumbered.
I think this article is largely assuming (or hoping) that all hunters are educated in political science and that they are not on the side of the government. Like all things, it takes all types.

The point of this story is that people are armed and ready to defend them selves and their families. We need to start WAKING sheeple up to the fact that the country is changing and not for the better. Hunting is a very important part of conservation. The green-movement-tree-hugging-squirrel-petting crowd should be more appreciative, or at least understanding of the hunter. In the wild; no one animal should become dominate than any other.
Where I am we have an over abundance of wild pig as it is. This is bad because they root up the grass lands (which causes erosion), destroy crops and create more competition for other wild life. And for those of you who aren’t in the know, pigs are not native to N America.
I suppose those of you against hunting would rather there be a jump in deer-vehicular head on collisions as well. I’m curious, you anti-hunters, have you ever seen deer run across the interstate?
And to the anti-hunters people. You like veggies? Thats great and all, good for you. But here’s a concept for you to wrap your brain around.
Farms (where your veggies come from), are in rural settings. Deer, live in rural settings (generally). If the deer population is left unchecked the amount of damage to your veggie crop would be catastrophic. You can’t build a fence around a giant farm because the deer will simply jump it. Ever seen a deer jump? I’ve seen deer jump a seven foot fence to get to a fresh veggie garden. And I can hear you now “But, but they could build a taller fence.” Really? So you would rather have everyone pay exorbitant amounts of money for food.

Congrats. You fit the bill of someone who is willful in their extreme narrow minded ignorance. If you love animals and the environment so much do a little research. Hunting is a part of nature conservation and is a food source for many. Having a great reverence for nature is a wonderful thing. But willful ignorance in place of facts is just wrong.

As much as it pains me to defend godmanenki, I don’t think he is disputing hunting for food and other pragmatic reasons, but, rather, jerk-offs who need to murder and show off about it. (There might be a few.)
I have never fired a gun and probably never will, but I have stalked pheasant with relatives on their farms and later eaten their cooked flesh (the pheasants, not the relatives).
In fact, right now, as I sit at my desk this New Years, sipping Marchese Antinori Classico Chianti and nibbling two-year-old cheddar, I am pressing a live squirrel between two crackers.
